60seriesguy 06-22-2002, 11:01 AM Whew....I've been going through serious withdrawal symptoms....
Hey, folks! Been in training for my new job for the last three weeks and still have a week to go, I haven't even had access to email and have been missing out on the Cruiser world. On the other hand, it's a killer job opportunity that I wanted to take FULL advantage of, so I'm glad I took a leave of absence from the Cruiser world. I go off to another week and then it's time to move to Texas (Austin), but I hope to be back to the Cruiser thing soon. In the meantime, the old beast has proven as reliable as always, carting me to and from Upstate NY without any complaints, and getting ready to take us to Texas.
While I was in Texas I had a chance to see Nolen and Julie Grogan, Jason and Margaret Harsch, Butch Baker and his family, Jeff Jones, Tom Watson, and a slew of fellow Cruiserheads from Texas who showed me the legendary Texan hospitality. I wanted to thank you publicly, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone soon, and more importantly, DOING SOME WHEELING, I'm going through withdrawal symptoms, yesterday I was tempted to drive over a fountain just to feel the truck tip sideways! :)
In any case, I had a few minutes today to check up on the progress of Nolen's engine swap, Sloan's FJ60 paint job and a bunch of other little details I've been missing (including GloNDark's becoming a dad, CONGRATULATIONS!)...
Anyway, thanks for the bandwidth, folks, I hope everyone is having a good time out on the trails, projects are being worked on, wives haven't been too harsh on your budgets, etc....
See y'all in Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Henry C.
wngrog 06-22-2002, 12:53 PM Glad to hear NY is going well. Give me a shout in the office next week and tell me how Reljac is holding up.
The Austin club is looking at a new Granite playground near Austin and the DF/W guys are at the "Slab" outside of Austin.
Don't worry, plenty of places to smoke that old FJ-62 clutch when you return!
See you soon.
fj40guy 06-22-2002, 02:53 PM Henry,
Looking forward to seeing you in Austin. I'm sure we'll pull out the TEXAS sized BBQ for when you are down here.
Tom :usa:

Man I am sorry I am going to miss that.
I think there is a good chance of getting some "Jackass" worthy footage.:p
Sloan 06-22-2002, 04:35 PM I contacted an expert and he says...
ginericfj80 06-22-2002, 05:20 PM Glad to hear you are alive and well. For a moment we thought you dropped off the planet. Are you going to be able to recover your emails or do you have too many? I sent you a photo of one of your "Details" in Watercolor and wasn't sure if you got it. I can hold off on resending it until you are settled in Texas. Anyway, I'm happy to hear things are going well for you.
Later!
Eric V.

fj40charles 06-22-2002, 09:36 PM Henry,
Welcome to Texas. Can't wait to go wheeling again..... Anyone for Poteau, OK on Labor Day?
Charles
texican 06-22-2002, 10:03 PM Labor Day 2000...heat wave, came thru town after wheeling, temp at local bank reads 116...
Labor Day 2001 ... FJ40 Charles bails ...... (runny nose) We pick up a Jeep we knew from prior trip, he rolls at 5 pm, takes 2 hrs to right him and repair enough to continue, I break pitman arm Nolen and I get lawn chairs and kick back to wait on rest of group to fetch spare......20 min. later on CB Kristie has lost steering, we jump in Kate, and get there to find all the studs on the RH knuckle sheared.....Kate is trapped between the 2 broken trucks, we start tearing it down while the 1 good truck in our group heads to town with broken Jeep.......we get repairs made on both trucks in time to see the sun rise.
Poteau...I DON"T THINK SO!!!!!
:mad3:

Box Rocket 06-24-2002, 10:05 AM All of you realize that Henry's move to Texas is only a stepping stone. We've got it arranged that Henry's real home is in Utah and part of Wasatch Cruisers.:D
Seriously, Good luck with the new job and the move hermano! I'm sure I'm not the only one anxious for you to get settled and back into some wheeling so I can continue collecting tidbits of cool cruiser info from you. Take care.
texican 06-24-2002, 10:27 AM Once he gets used to Texas he will be at home here....only want to visit Utah...

Box Rocket 06-24-2002, 10:34 AM Problem is, I know that. I guess I'm in denial. I flew out to Houston last year to buy our FZJ80 and I really liked Texas (until I hit Amarillo).
Oh well, you guys from LSLC should do another Utah trip and spend a little time with some of us from Wasatch Cruisers. Each year our club makes a big trip for a fundraiser type run late in the summer. We did Rubicon last summer, headed to Colorado this year. Maybe next year we come out to Texas.
texican 06-24-2002, 12:01 PM If you liked Houston ,then you would love North central/East Texas. houston is IMHO one of the worst places in Texas. humid!!!! Traffic is horrid....the Hill Country, Austin/San Antonio area is very nice also, lots to do.
LSC is working on a National type event for 2003 now, in the fall...
Shame we did not even get to shake hands at CM 02, I saw you and your truck go by once in Slickrock, but never did see you again
Butch
Box Rocket 06-24-2002, 12:08 PM I wasn't particularly excited about Houston but the long drive back through the Dallas/Fort Worth area was pretty sweet. Seemed like a pretty nice area.
rabid 06-24-2002, 12:10 PM Sigh....another east coaster leaves. Tragic.
Glad to hear that all is well, and good luck!
Kind of a hike to make it up for the gathering in the fall, though.

Not if HC "happens" to bring the wife to MD to visit her family that weekend, and then "happens" to head up to the Fall Gathering with me in my FJ40. We are way ahead of you, Dan. This is the role reversal year. Cubillan will be riding in my truck this year, instead of the other way round.
Ross
rabid 06-25-2002, 12:33 PM Be nice to see you behind the wheel and not spotting the GIANT wagon through the stuff:D :D
