My friend has either a 2000 or 2001 TJ he told me it had a reverse cut D30 up front, but does it really. Another thing, why does a 1/4 vehicle need a reverse cut axle besides the fact that it will reduce the pinion angle.

reverse cut or standard who cares is it working has it broke on him? NO!!! spin your wheels on if he should keep that 30 with his super-large 31" tires he runs on it:flipoff2:

He has a standard cut D30 in the TJ.

TJ=standard
YJ=HP
basically driveshaft angles are the reason

The YJ's have a HP reverse rotation D30 with a vacumn disconnect. The TJ's have a standard rotation with no disconnect. As I figure it, the standard rotation is cheaper for starters, and the wheels are pushing the axle most of the time with no disconnect, therefore they're working the drive side of the diff gear.

reverse cut doesn't mean reverse rotation, I've always been told that Ford uses reverse cut axles not only to decrease pinion angle but it also makes the coast side of the gears stronger especially for towing. Oh well, he wants to put 5.5" rubicon long arm kit with 36's dana 44 up front and 4.88's. I've been trying to talk him into buying my 44 housing and other stuff that I have but he won't go for it. I'm selling a late model 44 housing out of a J10 with inner and outer shafts, brake hubs, knuckles, spindles, and brand new 4.88 gears never installed for $250 but he doesn't think it's a good deal or something. Oh well, let him break that Fisher Price axle up front with his 36's
