Honestly, the best fj cruiserr specifc source for stuff like that is fjcruiserforums.com. Or mud. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of FJC owners that are of the "pirate" mindset.

Be warned -- The fjcforum is loaded with mall crawlers. about 20% wheel. Mud has a good following, but not nearly as FJC specific.

There are 3 SAS modded FJC that I know of, and one bad ass desert racer/mall crawler.

There are a number of manufactures making bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc. I went with the Demello bumper and sliders.

Here is a few threads that might be helpful. There are lots of pics in those threads. I think there are slider and lift comparison threads as well.

Oh, and wilson, if she wants black on black she has two options:

#1 - buy one of the 3200 07 TRD's that came that way fromt he factory

#2 - spend $500 - $1500 on getting the roof painted.

I may be selling my TRD, as I really like the new sand storm

Also the all-pro fits the best. My opinion

That looks real nice! This rig won't be built with pirate mentality, we've got a slightly modded Fj40 that I was given free reign on for things like that. We saw a ton of the FJC's at SnT last weekend and she decided she wants one. Won't be for another year or so (most likely). What's this sandstorm you speak of? We will likely get the TRD package from the factory, just don't see a reason not to. Maybe I'll SAS it by the time the kids can drive it

tell her this...

The best thing about driving my FJ is the approval ratings from onlookers. I went to the car wash a couple of weeks ago and happened to pull in right behind another FJ. Problem is the other FJ was sporting 20" chrome wheels, was slightly lowered, and had the bass thumpin'. What a poser! When I pulled up behind him, the car wash attendants all looked at my FJ and simultaneously did a "thumbs up" to my modifications! That felt pretty cool, if I do say so myself! :smokin:

So that you know -- in 07, the "Special Edition" was a TRD package, with the black on black. That is not offered in 08. For 08, the "special edition" has a "Trail Teams" badging, and is all white. Next year, who knows what they will offer. If your wife has her heart set on all black, you'll either need to buy an 07 TRD, or budget some coin to paint the roof black.

your going to have to get some cheap labor to keep it clean if its black!
Have had a few vehicles that were black.... they looked dirt brown living on a dirt road for years. too lazy to keep up on them.

light color most better, for you anyways, because I doubt the wifey will wash it. :D

Yes, the black shows dirt easily. It also is the purtiest clean.

Since it's actually a metallic, it has a clear on top, which means if you get brush marks, the marks turn white. But they rub out very well.

Believe me I've tried to convince her we don't want a black car. Once upona time she ahd a black jeep and loved it until she realized it was a turd. Now that she's playing for the right team she wants a sproty black rig again. I would not let her put a nice paint job on the 40 because it's going to get messed up and hard to blend rattle can into good paint.

The blindspots have me concerned as well. We'll likely hit the dealer the week of turkey day to check one out and see if she's still seriously interested. With '07 being the only model year with black on black we may end up getting one sooner than I would like. But, I guarantee it will be black on black.

The Thing with the blind spots is not that big of a deal, really. Just think of when you pack for the trail. I always have myself packed so full, I can only see out of the mirrors anyway.

Once you get used to the mirrors (and get the blind spot stick ons), and use the back up sensors, it's fine. On tight trails a spotter is really nice.

Not totally true. The cost of the TRD package was within a couple of hundred of a similarly equipped rigged. It also outfitted it more in line with being a wheeler.

While it is true that you can "build" what you want cheaper, for a lot of people it has what they need.

I think for 2008, the off-road package is a good set up, which is the basis of the 08 Special Edition.

The locker is an option on all the auto trucks, and standard with the 6 speed.

As of the last time I checked (March) there were 3 TRD FJ Cruisers left in the country on dealer lots. I think I would be safe to say that they are all sold by now. The only way to get a TRD FJ is to buy a used one.

That said, other than the shocks and TRD badging, there is no difference between that truck, and an oct 06+ FJ. Just make sure the Atrac and Rear locker work together on the truck you buy.

What Hick said....believe it or not, the 17" steelies sold me on the Option A FJ. I've got more ground clearance stock that I had with this rig I put about $3500 into on mods.

What's A-trac?

A-Trac uses brake pulses to transfer torque from a spinning wheel to the other side. It's like a pseudo-locker and works really well, but sure does make some funny noises.

My old lady has an FJC. The blindspots are bad but the thing that got my attention was the way the wind pushes the FJC around on the highway. If you are on an open road and there is a strong crosswind be prepared to drive with both hands FIRMLY on the wheel.

The blindspots have me concerned as well.

I bought mine in California... much better deal than here in Las Vegas... anywho... before I hopped on that plane headed for Burbank, I stopped by AutoZone and picked up a pair of those stick on convex mirrors for like $4, and threw them in my purse.

Before I drove off the dealer's lot, I stuck them on the corners of the mirrors, and the dealer was like, "whoa... that's a good idea...I should do that to all the FJ's."

That was back in January, and they've never come off and have done their job perfectly. They look stock, too, because they've got the black plastic behind the mirror that matches the factory quite well.

A four dollar investment well spent :D

Don't NOT buy an FJ for the blindspots! Think of the little cars that you can't see as OBSTACLES, then everyday will feel like you've gone four-wheeling!

I swapped my exhaust crossover to run behind the transfer case before we had a transfer case skid plate, but am currently looking for a stock crossover to swap in so I can run that skidplate. The A-arms are an option, required on the Tacoma but not required on the FJ (Yes, they use different upper a-arms, why we dont know). If someone with an auto trans FJ wants to swap exhaust crossovers mine will come with a very nice sounding Flowmaster 40 series muffler no extra charge, trhey just have to be local & help with the swap. It will not be compatible with the MT6 transmission as the clutch slave cylinder hose is in the way behind the transfer case.
