: Enclosed trailer advice

Need some expert PBB advice :) I currently have an 18x8 foot flat deck hauler. It is a beast, and if the axles were upgraded could easily be a 10k trailer. But it is over kill for me now, I no longer have a heavy rig and I am using it to haul 2-3 quads  Soooooo, I am thinking about a smaller, lighter enclosed trailer. I dont need anything fancy, and COST is a big problem. I am hoping to get $2800 or so in selling my trailer, and dont wanna come too much out of pocket for the enclosed. I am guessing I need at minimum a 14 footer though, cause I am looking at 2 full size 4x4 KingQuads and a kids quad to fit in it. So, what would you guys recommend? Where should I start looking? 6k for a new trailer is not in the works for me, does any one make a "cheap" yet decent quality enclosed?

A used one looks like your only option unless you can get one shipped from GA for little or nothing. No way to get two full size, plus a small quad in a 14' trailer. I am not sure you could get all three in a 16' trailer. Most of the smaller quads are 28"-29" wide. FWIW... be sure to get the inside measurement before you buy one. Some of the 14 footers are not 14 feet long inside etc. I have two inches to spare in my 14 footer when I put two Arctic Cat quads in it. If the quads had rear bumpers on either one of them they would not fit. I have the front one pulled to the front with a ratchet strap and the back one pulled back. Also, I see used 16' trailers for sale from time to time but hardly ever see 14'.

Really depends on two things of course... a) width of the quads and b) width of the trailer.

My toy hauler is 102" wide with a 96" wide door opening. Brad, you've seen my quads and I'd consider them "average sized" utility quads.... They're 48" wide. I can fit them side-by-side in the rear of the trailer... And at that, they only take up about 6'6" of floorspace (front to rear). So it's doable, but as stated, measure twice, cut once!

You are right about the width Mike. I did not even consider putting them side by side. On the wider enclosed trailers the fender wells are in side the box unless you get a deck-over type. Even the one I listed is 86" wide inside. That being said, the quads would have to be end to end. One thing I have thought of is, making some kind of rack to put them on and slide them in sideways. Then you could get three in a 14' trailer. Maybe Kieth needs to get a toy hauler like yours. Then all three would fit. :D

you might be able to save a few bucks by buying a snowmobile trailer that they add the aluminum shell over the top and those are max road width for 2 sleds side by side. that would be nice and light too. I paid just over 2k for mine a few years ago. not sure what they go for now but look local for a used one.

So who knows anything about Haulmark trailers? I am looking at a 2005 8x18 Haulmark "Race Trailer" for $6300 out the door? Seems a little steep to me....but I dunno anything about them???

Gotta tell me more about it.

Race trailer should have the ramp door in the rear.

Side door? How wide? How does it close? (lock bar or rv style latch or both)

Interior lights? Switched on the wall or at the lights? Load lights on the rear?

How are the interior walls finished? Bare plywood? Slick wall? Do you see the screws holding the interior wall panels on?

Do you see the screws holding the exterior wall panels on? What is the thickness of the metal on the exterior panels? What color?

How many roof vents? Is one of the vents braced for roof air conditioner? Pre-wired for air conditioner?

Cabinets? Any 110vac wiring?

EDIT: Are the walls/roof insulated?

Oh, it does have the D rings in the floor front and rear, and a bunch of d rings in the walls.

The real question is are they good quality? Will it hold its value. Basically, they are asking 5700 plus fees, tax, etc and they will not negotiate at all.

Yes. Decent price. Excellent trailer. Around here, it's hard to find a good used enclosed trailer that someone isn't asking full bore retail for. For the Haulmark Race trailer, that's not a bad price.

To give you an idea of the strength, we had a customer get hit on the freeway down your direction. He was on his way to Arizona, doing 60-65 mph. A little stolen Honda came up on him doing estimated 90 mph and hit his back corner. Totalled the Honda of course. Customer kept on to Arizona and brings it to us a week later after he used it for the week. All we had to replace were three sheets of aluminum, the rear corner metal, and two wall studs. Frame was checked at the body shop, and the alignment on the axles was perfect.

Have you checked that price with Trailer Guy's price for pbb members?

They sell haulmark, and Im sure he could get you lower than that.... He's in Stockton I believe...?

Maybe try pm'ing him, he gave me an awesome deal on my Prodigy, and get it to me when I needed it by the weekend. When I go to find an enclosed trailer, I plan to check prices with him, it might be cheaper for me to go down there and pick it up, especially with Washington prices....

I PM'd Trailer Guy last night, figured he is doing the holiday weekend thing so I will wait to hear back from him.

Thanks Fyrman, those are the kinds of stories I was hoping to hear. I also found a new one in Galt (07) for $6200 advertised, but I am sure it is bare bones. By the time I put what I want on it it'll be way too much

Don't be afraid to barter with them. And if it doesn't have a finished interior, adding what you need later is quite simple. If it is finished, no big deal.

Keith Strong

Thats just it. They wont barter at all. It was kind of mind boggling, and really upsets me  I hadnt even got to really talking and she says the price is what it is...no bartering. $5700 plus tax, etc. Oh, and a $167 for an inspection fee, as they just got it in trade and havent gone over it yet.

FYRMAN
11-25-2007, 04:47 PM
If you do buy that one, demand that you get a report of what was found/fixed during the inspection. If you paid for it, you have the right to know what is on that report. If they won't cough it up, walk.

Seriously, try and get ahold of Aaron. He may barter for your AR!

Yeah, they are really nice, and willing to do all that, I just dont think it is all that good of a deal, or at least my gut tells me that

Has anybody seen or heard from Trailer Guy lately?
