Does anyone know if the transmission from a 88 2.9V6 (A4LD) will use the same bellhousing from a 94 4.0V6 Transmission (A4LD)? Could I swap the bellhousings over between the two if they are not the same? Are there any other parts that might be different, there usually is. I am trying to help my friend get his truck back on the road.

Thanks

A4LD is pos as you prolly already know, so you want the manual NOT the auto. The bellhousing does not un-bolt from the auto a4ld or the Mazda built M5R1 (aka M5ODR1) tranny. The prolly M5R1 tranny for a 94 Ranger 4.0 (right side starter) has the starter on the opposite side of a 2.9 (left side). IIRC some 4.0 had starter on left side. These two trannies are the exact same length, but there are different internal gear ratios between the 2.9 and 4.0 versions.

Check my 4x4 conversion/manual tranny swap thread here for more specifics and pics:

Anything else, just ask and I'll try to help. I've had alot of pita with this truck....bwahahaha! :D

Nate fix your post. The 2.9L and the 4.0L orientation for the starter are the same. The 3.0L is the one with the starter on the passenger side.

the 2.3L and the 3.0L don't even share the same BH pattern. The 2.8, 2.9, and 4.0 all share the same pattern.

Does any one have a working A4LD, or a M5R1, clutch pedal assembly, slave and master cylinder? Are the T-case with the A4LD and the M5R1 the same?

Thanks

Put a c4 in it, c5 bellhousing and tailhousing out of a b2, 4.0 flexplate.
