: Yeah, it's another 203 -205 question, 3 actually.
Whitetrash303 11-06-2007, 10:59 PM Sorry guys, tried searching posts first, eyes started burning.
I've got a 79 F-250 with a C-6 and a 203. The 203 is bad and I wanna swap to a 205 untill I can sell a kidney for a doubler and shafts.
I assume I need both F+R shafts from a truck with a 205. Is that true or just rear?
How bout the adapter and output shaft for the C-6, the lengths are going to be different too aren't they?
And finally, I'm having a hard time finding trucks with a C-6 and 205 for comparison, Are the drive shaft lengths going to be the same for a truck with a 435/205 as a C-6/205?
Groundhawg 11-07-2007, 04:20 PM Yes, the adapters and output shafts are different lengths, but that is what makes up for the difference in length between the two cases.
You can bolt a 205 right up though, but you will almost definitly have to get custom length shafts for it. I doubt any stock length ones would work. You would also need to mod the shifter linkage.
I would just replace the 203 with another for now.
You could sell the range box from your current 203...the problem is probably in the chain section anyway.
Whitetrash303 11-07-2007, 10:24 PM Thanks for the reply Groundhawg. I'm hell bent and determined on the 205 thing though, I need one for the doubler setup later anyway.
I found a deal on the 205, adapter, front driveshaft, and shift linkage. I'll be trading an extra motor for it this weekend. I'll still need a rear shaft though, bringing me back to my last question. Will a rear shaft from a 435/205 be the same length as one from a C-6/205?
larboc@hotmail.com 11-08-2007, 06:14 AM Arn't there two different adapter/tailshaft lengths for the c6-205 combo?
The c6 is a reasonably long tranny, I would find it hard to belive that a 435 is as long but what do I know.
Groundhawg 11-09-2007, 01:38 PM The stock 205 adapter will not work with your trans. because the adapter and output shaft for the 203 is longer.
As I said before, the 205 will bolt up, but you will have to use the 203 adapter.
Also, if you put the 205 on there with the 203 adapter, the 205 front shaft will be too long. Cutting a shaft down isn't too bad though. The back, I don't know how the length will fall there, but I'd say that any factory shaft will be too short.
jagermiester 11-09-2007, 02:38 PM I will take your 203 range box if you want to part with it.

The adapters for the 4 speed trannys make them the same length as the C6. That way the transmissions are interchangable without changing crossmembers.
Whitetrash303 11-09-2007, 08:49 PM Cool, Thanks guys. Looks like I'm gonna hunt down a drive saft this weekend. I didn't want to rebuild the C-6 right away but I guess I have to if the output shafts are different. I don't wanna sell the 203 cause I want the rangebox for after my kidney operation. I am selling a running 74 for the low low price of $1200 if anyone in CO is interested, It's a highboy with the big spicer hubs.
