Got bored Saturday and decided I had enough pieces to start my EFI conversion. For those that don't know my rig, it is a 327 powered 1971 Toyota FJ-40.
Some months ago I bought the complete TBI system off of an 87 Chev 3/4 ton truck. I have slowly been getting it ready to install. The Intake has been tanked and blasted, The wire harness has been stripped of all wiring I don't need in the cruiser, and the trottle body has been rebuilt. I have 2 proms for the computer, one for 350 w/4 speed, and one for 350 w/auto.
Origonally I was going to use the cylinder heads I already had (would require slight intake manifold mod), but a set of TBI heads showed up on E-bay and I bought them.
So, I went and pressure washed the under hood at the local car wash, and then sarted pulling pieces. I am now down to the short block. I have to install a new camshaft, too, as the Performer cam I have now is not computer compatible.
If all goes well, (ha ha) I'll have it ready for Greenwater this weekend.
I am taking pix, but they aren't digital. I'll scan them for posting when I get them back.

One extra bolt, or one in the wrong spot, don't remember..... on each side. Would imagine in would be PITA to try and drill and tap it on the truck....one of my customers did it though.

In 1987, Chev made the 2 center bolts (on each side) on the intake manifold go in at a different angle (almost straight down). If you have ever tried to install and torque those 2 with the old high rise manifold they were difficult. These make it easy to get a socket on them. Newer Vortech V-8 engines don't even have the 2 center bolts. You can make an old manifold fit newer heads by slotting the 2 center bolts to allow the bolts to go in at the corect angle.

ahhh all my v-8 expierence is older carb engines. say, what about a simple plate adapter to put the TBI on the older intake? i ask these because my buddy is askin me about putting TBI on his 350.
heres what i'm thinkin, flat chunk of aluminum counter sunk drilled to bolt to the manifold, then drilled/tapped to bolt the TBI to it??

Yes, it can be done that way too. I just wanted to have it all GM. I had an aftermarket system before that used a Ford TBI and an adapter plate and had problems with the gasket under the adapter getting sucked into the manifold (vac leak).

The guy at www.customtbis.com uses an adapter for older engines for his GM TBI setups
