: wheel size for d60
tunaboat 11-07-2007, 07:22 PM I have 1/2 ton axles under my k5 now, and im going to change my front d44 to 8 lug, and install a 14ff in the rear. When I can find a front d60 im going to swap that in. my question is, will 15" wheels fit or will i need to go to 16" or 17" wheels.

florida4x4 11-07-2007, 07:28 PM 15's won't work without having to grind the calipers. check out the sizes and prices of the tires you want to see if 17's are available.
srv8800 11-07-2007, 07:30 PM to fit 15" wheels on either axle, you're going to have to grind your calipers some. alot more on the d60. the less backspacing your wheels have, the less you will have to take off. i just went through this on my 3/4ton d44. had to barely surface the top of the caliper and take a little more off the caliper mount. i have 3 1/2" backspace wheels.
tunaboat 11-07-2007, 10:41 PM since I haven't bought wheels and tires yet, it sound like it would be alot eaiser to just go with 16", or 17". Is there any advantage to running 15" wheels?
riddler28 11-08-2007, 12:57 AM I had to take alot of meat off the calipers to run a borrowed set of boggers 15"
about 2hrs. per side with a 4 1/2" grinder. Go with 16" or above.
I've been told 15" hold the tire better. But I still managed to get one off!

I will be using beed lock's
Donahue 11-08-2007, 02:35 AM no grinding with 2.5" BS on either axle. 15" tires are easier to find, and have safety bead.
florida4x4 11-08-2007, 03:50 AM yeah no grinding with 2.5BS but it makes your track wider. I'm running 16.5 with stazworks beadlocks. can't go wrong with that combo.
TwistedMetal87 11-08-2007, 04:34 PM I know that with a dana 60 out of an old ford you have to run at least a 16.5 rim without grinding down the calipers. Im not sure though what the specs are for a chevy 60
6.2Blazer 11-09-2007, 01:25 PM A friend of mine had a '78 Ford with the factory D60 front and ran normal 16" white spokes with no issues.
Sure, wheels with something like 2.5" BS will make the truck wider, but will 1.5-2" per side really make that much of a difference on something that is already in the 80+" range?? I run 2.75" BS wheels on my truck currently, but they are only 8" wide, and overall the edge of the rim sticks out less than my last set of rims that had 4" BS (but were 10" wide).
duncanstives 11-09-2007, 01:27 PM You will definitely need 22in wheels.
With spinners.... Otherwise the d60 won't work.
theydontstop 11-09-2007, 01:35 PM Just get 17's now. No grinding, run any BS you want, and most tires are available in 17's, which is where the offroad tire market is/is heading towards.

hmmm
I didnt see that roadsign...
OklahomaK5 11-09-2007, 01:58 PM I put a set of 17x8 inch H2 Hummer wheels and tires on my K5 when I swapped in a Stock D60 and C14 with homemade disk brakes using the Dodge W20 front rotors. The wheels fit fine. They could use a little more backspacing b/c the front hubs just stick out from the wheel about an inch. Hasn't been a problem for me. They set under the truck nicely and most importantly were realitively cheap. The tires and wheels cost me $800 for a set of 5 new take-offs.

You want less backspacing if you want them to stick out farther to cover the hubs.
bayareayota 11-09-2007, 03:32 PM you can run a 15" rim like everyone said just grind the $hit out of the caliper . i spent about 6 hours on my taking it back and forth grinding it down . i would run a 15" rim with a 2.5" back spacing though . that is next for me when i can afford the rims .
