Just wandering if anyone was running a keg for a gas tank and/or had any opinions/advice on it.

honestly, that's a rediculous idea. Coolness factor - zero.

Junkyard Wars....yes....its a fact of life for an broke college student....I've got a leaking tank and two (free to me) 15.5 gallon alluminum kegs sitting in my garage....so why not?

As for coolness factor, I don't care....you should see the rest of the jeep, partly camo, primer, forest green metalic, and olive drab, oh and rust of course....the d60 and 14 bolt are the only items all one color...black.

Cool you have two of them! Mount them on the hood like two four barrels (get it?) and you wont even need a fuel pump... gravity will "ram" the gas into the carb. LOL

You can probably find some good info on Sandrail or Glamis bulletin boards.

I don't know why it wouldn't work... Trying to get fittings and floats would suck. There also aren't any baffles in kegs as far as I know. I think you'd be better off with a junk yard tank, but it would work and I would give you 10 coolness points.

Not that hard I hope you know how to weld stainless.

A sender would be a PITA and would be not very accurate , unless the keg is mounted standing up. I would just use a sightglass.

Beer kegs have a lining on the inside that gas dissolves. Your fuel system gets all clogged up as a result. It'll give your ride that cool '70's look too.:p

I have worked in the brewing industry for 14 years and stainless kegs do not have a lining!:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I run a keg on my 23 chevy works fine for me wasn't hard to build eather don't run a fuel guage so din't have that issue.
Putting in the fill neck was the only challenge and it wasn't that big of a deal hot rodders have been running them for years:smokin:

Thanks for the info guys.... I talked to a guy last night who runs one in his boat so I got alot of info on pumps, mounting, and fill neck, from him. As for if they are alluminum or stainless I don't know, I haven't even cleaned them off yet, someone had told me they were alluminum and they were light so I figured he was right, but I don't really know yet.

It seems like a shame to go through all the trouble of mounting a keg on your rig and not have beer in it............Hmmmmm, I already have on board CO2..............;) :beer:

They have not made kegs out of aluminum in over 40 years good luck finding one!:flipoff2:

The aluminum keg that was the fuel tank on my corvair powered sand rail must have been 40 years old then.

I will trade you a keg tank that came off a rail I once had for the two kegs that you have. I think they would make some cool stools for the basement.

My brother runs one under his M38a1, I'll try to get pictures... looks cool, has NO edge to hang up on anything and is it's own skidplate.

oh $hit really :eek: dam a budy use one for a fire pit and it melted dam didnt know it was so rear
