the rear leafs, rear ?whatchacallit?...(brackets)? holds the leafs from wandering side to side... usually as far as i'm accustomed to are closed off on top. but on this here little 'yota I just bought, the "bracket" is open as if someone bent them straight up. I think for better articulation, but I'm unsure. Need I worry, if I bend them back will they be strong enough to do their job? Should I replace them? 91 yota pickup, 4 popper, 4x4, all stock, 153,xxx and yes, it has been off roading(before I got it). It's my new DD and will only see wheeling if i slide off the road on my way to work. Any help?

Post up a pic so we can get a better idea what you are asking.

Generally, if you bend something 90 degrees and then bend it back again the stress fractures induced will weaken it enough that it shouldn't be used in load-critical applications. I suspect that you have a classic case of "if you have to ask, you probably already know the answer..."

He's referring to leaf spring clamps. they can be bent back down. The only way I know to replace the riveted ones Toy uses is to replace the springs. It won't hurt them to leave them up. If you don't offroad it, the springs can't open up anyway.

Nevermind, turns out I was looking at it wrong and everything is just fine. Sorry just another over-worried newbie. Thanks anyways guys. I'll do my best not to cry wolf again. As punishment, I'll let my wife have one of my beers! (It's the only way I'll learn...):shaking::laughing:
