like mark said - this is not your old type of thinking c/v joint -cheesy -Hell no - the one ton c/v is the toughest c/v on the market- I have a list of guys using - (steve ORU) , (Shawn spickler Off-Road.com Chevy) (yours truly Mr. LAnce yeh!)( Joel randall top 10 Arca Finishers )Rich Hudson -Top 10 arca finisher) Jason Paulie Top 10 arca finisher ( Mike Ladd of bent and twisted Oh Yeh! ) just to name a few- so i say why not run a c/v its MORE Flexable than any single joint in its class - Jess

Why not a CV? For some of us, it just simply is not an option. I'm running an offset rear housing. 'Nuff said.

Alright, I admit to sniffing too much gasoline, but..

How's the applicability of something like this for use as a pseudo-normal brake?

What if I put a t'case mounted disc brake on my tow-rig, and added an electric caliper (like a disc brake'd car trailer would have) and controlled it via a second electronic trailer brake controller.

Adjustable to the amount of clamping, proportionate to the braking, and even if it fails, you still have your stock 4 wheel brakes.. but when it's working, you'd have the 4-wheel brakes plus a little extra brake from the t'case disc.

Braking is proportionate to the surface area.. and 5 rotors would be better than 4..

Or should I go back to ?

The reason I have the t-case mounted ebrake installed is I did I rear disc conversion and DID not want the e-brake cables hanging around the tires.. Just a snag waiting to happen. I do not believe High Angle ever designed this kit to take the place of the stock braking system but you may have an idea. Hmmm... anyhow the brake works like a champ and if you put it in 4wd you have a 4 wheel e-brake.

I understand the e-brake thing. I need to do something differnt on my rig - the ebrake cable is acting as a limiting strap at the moment..

At the same time, who doesn't want more brake? And if you already have a disc mounted under there.. add a second (electric) caliper and tie it in.. ta-dah, more brake.

Big trucks used drum brakes mounted to the rear output for an ebrake/parking brake.. and I think it'd be difficult to tie in a hydraulic unit, but common trailer brake parts might be useful.

*shrug*

Maybe someone'll start thinkin' about the idea and we'll see a kit next year.

bringin up an old one here.

how much larger is the rotor over the flange? Hard to tell from the pics, but looks to be about 2 to 3 inches?

Whats the smallest rotor that could be used?

using this old pic from when i put mine in, i went out in the garage and measured the wood grain on the work bench. i estimate the rotor to be just under 10 inches. maybe 9.5 - 9.75.

clearance issues i take it?

Mine is 9.25".

There isn't a hell of a lot of clearance between the caliper and flange, you might get the overall O.D 3/8" or so smaller without changing the caliper.

thats what a search does for you

played phone tag with you today jesse. Can you tell me how much larger the rotor is compared to the flange? Looks like 2 to 3" on the radius????

another question is, based on the pic above, does a ford shaft have the mounting bolts go through the rotor, then the CV and then into the shaft? Otherwsie, it would appear that the rotor would be in the way of the ford mounting bolts?

Yep. I have bigtime clearance issues with a klune/205 behind the looooong E40D in my bronco. Im only about 2" from the floor as it sits now.

the flange is 5.250 diameter and rotor is 9.375 - yes the bolts go through the rotor then the flange- JEss
