I would not spend $200 on a used A/C only Stick welder.
Just my .02

I think the only time I've used AC in the last decade was TIG'n AL. Going off my experience, I'd skip it and look for a more capable unit.

I've got a linclon like that one, I've had it for 25-30 yrs. no problems till lately, the cooling fan is getting noisey.
One the otherhand, it is only AC, There has been many times I really wanted to to get nice clean pretty welds which is near impossable with AC. AC splatters quite a bit.
I've never found anything I couldn't weld with it! (except thin sheetmetal)

You can pick up a new Lincoln AC stick welder from Home Depot or Lowes for around $250.

It will weld up just about anything you want. It's not as capable as an AC/DC box but for $200, I don't think you can get a better welder.

I was in a similar boat. My 110v mig couldn't do everything I wanted then I found a 295amp AC only Sears stick welder for $50. It needed new wires which were another $50, but man I love that thing! It'll weld everything you'll ever need, but it might be ugly welds.... no "stack of dimes" here.
I'd love to move to a 220v mig, but that's a big $$ jump that I can't make right now.
I agree with the others that $200 is a bit much, I'd offer $100 and if he says no, turn and walk out the door and hope he calls you back :) otherwise, keep looking. An AC only stick is not really worth that much anymore and there's still lots of them out there.

It can weld wonderfully if you are used to using it. My dad learned how to weld using that same welder which we still have and he can damn near weld like a robot. I wish i could say the same. On the other hand a good 240 volt mig welder with gas is pretty capable as well.

I have the same one, works well and probably the best bang for your buck. They want too much though, I got mine on ebay for $75.
