I have a 90 Pathfinder and the stock headlights are pitiful.
What is the best upgrade (for a reasonable amount of money)?
I think I remember something about swapping in the headlight buckets from a truck because there are many more headlight options for the truck.
Anybody know anything about this?
thanks,
James

What about just upgrading to HID's? This seems to be creeping into the off road world from the tuner world.

you can get sealed beam conversion light housings and then get the Sylvania ultra bulbs.

Just put some good bulbs in the stock lights. Mine were plenty bright. And on 4x4parts there is a write up on how to rewire the lights and get a lot more out of them. Check it out before getting the HB front.

Check on ebay for the replacement housings. I bought mine for about 20-30 bucks and can use H4 bulbs i believe. It's a direct replacement.

You can buy headlight harnesses that run the lights directly off the battery so that your bulbs get the full power that they are rated for. Significant difference vs stock. I run a setup on mine.

You got any pics or a link to those harnesses?

You can get the better bulbs from any auto parts store or ebay. I was going to try some on my pathy.

i converted mine to the "newer" style. i was running into the problem of hitting deer, and most of the stores in my area dont have the sealed beams in stock but they do carry the H4 bulbs. it cost me about $75 for the setup but i also went with 100watt high and 65 watt low beems. but if i need to i can put a stock H4 in it also. got mine at auto zone they are actually for a jeep cherokee, i think around a 90

My hb had the pathy setup (88-89 hb's had them). I threw a new '95 grille, new marker lights (have to swap them), junkyard headlight buckets and the headlight plug, and new bulbs for about $120. Great investment considering how often I was taking out lenses on the composite ones, and those aren't cheap. They would get holes chipped through them, I would silicone it, but moisture always got it, rusted the reflector, and yellowed the lens. I can just buy a $12 sealed headlight and slap it in now. I like the looks much better, too.

my problem is that they keep filling up with dark muddy water and only have a slight glow afterwards. do any of them fix moisture problems?:D

Yep, that's why I switched to sealed beams. If they do get a hole in them, it's also only $10-15 for a complete light, rather than $60-70.

I have a '91 Pathfinder and I threw a set of buckets and a grill from a truck on the front.
I then got some Hella E-Code lights and relayed the wiring right off of the battery.
Screw the composite headlights!!
