He took a close second in the ERoCC Legends Class this weekend (in his 1st competition). He was in our group so I was lucky enough to watch him drive. He took a SUA cruiser on 35 MTRs with the stock 6 and drove like a pro in his first competition. He was only ousted from the top by a few points.

The top spot was claimed by a custom Tube-Buggy that used a stock jeep frame just so it could run the legend class (total bullsh!t in my eyes, but within the written rules).

Driving wise spaceghost made him look like a fool. It didn't matter how rough it got he gave it hell in that cruiser. He was "GETTIN' IT". The other fellow would typically do things like pull a cable right off the bat, or just point out of an obstacle because it was difficult. SpaceGhost would beat his sh!t to death until a time out or break. It was fun to watch. He even changed out the rear third member Saturday night (after two broken axles Saturday) just to run Sunday. Most people would've called it quits with that breakage.

Thanks for the show SpaceGhost. You were a blast to have in our group. Everyone was impressed with your driving (and your patience with your spotter ;) my girlfriend and I were feeling for you )

Yep, Spaceghost was the man. All you have to say is Yota hill. Kenny, his spotter, couldn’t run fast enough :D He made it look like pulling through the drive-up at Wendys. I think he even upsized it:D

Congrats SpaceGhost!!!

Spaceghost may not have won the comp on points but he sure made it a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Good driver and just a little bit full of $hit must make for a good combo.

He got second in the legend class.

You cannot compare legend class to unlimited because they are scored differently.

I understand that, but I thought that maybe they somehow combined the classes at the end for overall rankings or something.

Kind of like ALMS. You have LMP900, GT, GT3, etc, etc. You can win your class, and then be placed "8th" overall or something like that.

Just wondering.

Just not possible:D :p

When Legend winch is only 15 points they do it often. With Unlimited winch at 30 points it's not an option unless you've timed out and broken so you have to be removed. See what I'm saying, they're just totally different. the scoring difference affects the obstacle approach therefore the two aren't comparable.

Ok, ok. Cool. I thought maybe they just divided it by Pi and added the square root of the total points deducted by the highest scoring unlimited and divided it by the average age of the competitors. :flipoff2:

Cool dog by the way.

I'll leave this thread now, and continue my crack smokin'! :D

First off, Meeting you guys (and some that aren't here) was the best part of the weekend.

A public thanks goes out to to Chad who after I broke rear pinion on the last obstacle Sat afternoon, and was otherwise done he called home, had his brother (I think) pull one from a parts rig and drive it 80 miles to Jellico. Timing couldn't have been better, we pulled in the hotel, jumped in the shower to wash the days heat and exhaustion from our tired old asses, grab some processed beef sandwiches from a national chain, while waiting for the sun to disappear and cool the down after a scorching day.

With everybody insisting on helping (thanks) we yanked the rear apart and just as we were pulling the third, the replacement was delivered to my trailer. While fighting back the urge to jack slap a good natured friend, Neil, we slapped the lockright back in place and buttoned it up. That dude has serious issues! A couple hours of wrenching and we were all set to continue.

As far as the competition, wow did I go to school. Should have at least brought some pencils and paper. Kenny and I had not prepared for what was in store. Our reluctance to build roads (stack like mad) cost us and resulted in the carnage we experienced. We WILL be better prepared next go round. Maybe getting some stockers through Purgatory will be good homework!

The course designer is a madman! But after it was all said and done, maybe he accomplished his goal. Ken Shupe, scored "0" on the second day, and a total of like 12 pts. So maybe if I wheel all day 4 days a week and spend some money on a new rig, and my spotter gets his degree in bridge building, naw.................. wait a minute, I still want to have FUN!

Thanks for your support Bigdude, I know my spotter feels bad after seeing the work you put into the job. It was helpful following you guys, if for nothing more than the new friendships we made.

The Syko's are a blast, thanks to both of you for hanging with us and your support. I know that tire shag was a killer, I owe you some  ! We will wheel again!

IndyCJ, gotta get yours done so we can talk some smack and practice together, thanks for your supports as well! What was all that banging on the wall in the middle of the night, lol? I know the little one was asleep...........................

Lastly, Kenny, I wouldn't have been there with out you. Thanks for taking time away from your wonderful family (thanks Tammy, Casey) to get abused, beaten, run like a dog, and mostly just being a good friend! Hows your finger?

We have a score to settle, and we'll do it in July, see ya there Jack Betto, lol!

Let the little guy eat.........................

bigdude
06-24-2002, 07:37 AM
Actually it wouldn't be perfect but....

You could take every obstacle that he winched on w/o pointing out and add 15 points to it. If the total is less than 40 then use it. If it's more than 40 then he would get a 40.

This total would be applicable against the unlimited class. Also he drove like he was in the unlimited class anyways :D. I only saw one obstacle where he winched and then completed it under 40 points. Mostly he just winched after he got all f@ckered up :D

That boy can drive.

Uh, yea right. Step away from the crack pipe. Remind me sometime to tell you what my wife said about you and Kenny. (Not appropriate for the board). :D

Yea, I gotta get mine done. I've already lined up my spotter, and we've been shooting e-mails back and forth about our plan of attack.

But, going was good, and meeting all of you was great! The wife has given me clearance :flipoff2: to compete next year, she was very entertained, and impressed with all of "you" guys. Although she said I needed to get everybodies name (BigDude, Syko, badassjeepguy, BorninaJeep) just doesn't cut it for her. :D

I'll be there in July, hopefully with my new spotter, so that we can learn some more, and drink some more.

Congrats again Mike.

A little side note on this. If you happen to be reading this

Jack Bettio-

I have never seen a more callous and rude attitude. You are the definition of poor sportmanship in my opinion. When your fellow competitor and wheeler is broke/stuck and not going to complete an obstacle YOU HELP HIM. You pull your f@cking cable and help get him out.

You're an asshole Bettio. All your money may have bought you a trail rig but it didn't teach you humanity, nor did it teach you how to drive. Your lucky it was SpaceGhost's first comp or he would've beat you hands down.

I'll see you in July also Bettio IN LEGENDS. I think we're giving the stretched TJ a break for that event (having already qualified for the finals) and I'll be spotting for a very capable CJ against your bad attitude. I'll break myself in half to beat you.

You're lucky my girlfriend didn't kick you in the little balls you have, because she wanted to.

What's that supposed to mean????? Did we smell bad :flipoff2: :D ?????

I apologize if I didn't come off friendly or something and I know Syko will feel the same. I get all worked up for these compettions (as my g/f will attest to) and it's pretty much a non-stop weekend that's really stressful. Kind of rough when your good friend puts his pretty stretched TJ in your hands and you hate to be the one resposible for it rolling (whoops). It was good to meet you though. In July I propose the Pirate loonies have dinner together at Buckners on Friday night, including the specatator/supports folks. I am going to pick up one of those skull and crossbone flags and attach it to my Cruiser!

Bigdude, you and Buddy are a couple of lucky guys, your ladies stuck it out, without complaint, in the hot dusty conditions, and actually appeared to be enjoying it.

I realized I should have thanked Darryl and the Trail Keepers for their hard work in my earlier post. Without them we aren't all jacking off at work (or wherever) and following this thread! Darryl I still luv ya, you sadist!

Man, you guys are rough!!!

As an event organizer and an Assistant to Darrel in designing the course, I'd like to thank all of you for competing fairly. Even though SpaceGhost got a bit "bent" on the last obstacle, I was glad to see a legends competition right down to the end, with both sides taking it down to the wire. SpaceGhost fought and clawed like a wild cat down to the last gate on B-12.

As for the downhill on Yota Hill, Tim and I designed that obstacle, and talked Darrel into it... I really liked how that obstacle flowed, and we even had a few teams take the bonus gates.

All in all, GREAT EVENT!!! We are talking (Tim, Darrel, and I) about the possibility of putting all the legends competitors in one group... the fierce competition at the very end was the highlight of the day for me.

BTW, the tan Land Cruiser driven by Ron Maximoff broke a knuckle on #12... where were you bastards with some help!!!!:flipoff2:

Since it's no secret, I was in the same place they were when they had the phone number of a guy 15 miles away with cruiser parts I needed to continue the next day. How many times do you have to ask for a phone number to get it?

I was hanging out with my thumbs stuck up my ass, lol.

BTW, like it or not, I don't hesitate to tell you what I think :flipoff2: Chad (jeepinchad) is a great guy, very helpful, cool personality, oh and patient too. I hope to get to know him better so he doesn't think I'm an asshole.

As far as helping, heres the real value: Karma! Anyone that knows me, will tell you I will give you my spares, work on your rig, leave my Cruiser sits outside while yours is in my garage for days (in the rain). I did it this weekend and will do it again.

When I needed a third member to continue, I wasn't exactly a happy camper when all my contributions to the Karma left me with out one. I am sorry I showed that dissapointment. Because had I just let the Karma sync up with my needs, maybe I would have taken the knuckle off my Cruiser on the trailer to get them out.

Anyway, pissed and dejected I headed back to town, decided to check at Buckners to see if the results were up so I would know just how hard to try and find parts. Saw some familar and friendly faces and asked if they might have any idea where to find a third member for a Cruiser. What do you ya know, "go find Rocky he might know" was their responce. I headed back to the hotel, and guess whos resting on the bank where I parked, Rocky of course. So I ask him, and he tells me he does know someone he can call, and proceeds to dig up the cell # of some guys he has sold parts to that are 80 miles away. After a few minutes they (Chad my newest hero, not jeepinchad) calls back, he has the parts, but he is next door at the days in, says he has someone there that will pull them off a rig and deliver them in a couple of hours. "Ok, thanks Chad I'm speechless, what is a fair price for all this?" "Nothing, lets exchange some info on mods you've done, it'll be at your trailer in 3 hours or so, was his answer.

My faith in the Karma was restored to the highest by Chad. Thanks man.

Jeepinchad, I apologize for being an asshole. It won't happen again!

hahaha... you were only an a$$hole because you had a$$holeship being bestowed upon you from what I have heard. ;) If there is one thing I understand, it is competitiveness. I used to be the world's worst loser... now, I'm just a loser. :flipoff2: I got there (to where you were hung on Andy's Crack) to late to know what went on between you, Jack, and the rest of the folks there, so I really can't jump to anyone's defense.

Seriously, I didn't think you were being a prick... you were just trying to get your rig going to make a run at the title. Personally, I loved it. It was great to see you guys down in that hole being completely passionate about wanting to win. I wish every team out there shared the same "ferocious dog" attitude when under the gun.

Keep it up... I can't wait for the next event now. Hell, I may forget about all the other action, and follow the Legends crowd all day. I love it when teams leave it all, including spare parts, all out there on the rocks. :D

First thing first, hi, I am new to the board.

Ok, with that out of the way, Space ghost we talked several times during the event. I actually caught a pic of you coming out of Grady's Gap. The Spaceghost wheel stand!

Truely one of the cool exits for that obstacle. Also, the spotters for some of the teams worked their arse off! A big congrats goes out to those of you did. Bigdude, here is a couple of Buddy coming out of Grady's Gap too. First one shows the "all" you gave continously through the weekend. The second does not do justice for the angle of Buddy during the exit.

The first one has my vote for the next shirt. At least out of the 600+ pics I have from the weekend.

Greg,

Let me know the best way to get those photos from you, and I'll put them up on my server. I have PLENTY of room.

Way cool pics. BigDude did work his ass off... it was just decieving sometimes because he is in a little better shape than most of the other spotters. :)

The husband/wife team was a good team as well... Yolanda really gets into telling Jeff (her husband) what to do with his truck, and she does a great job of doing it. I have some of those photos lying around I'll try and get up on the web.

Chad, pictures will go in the mail tomorrow. I have the CD burnt and ready. Just have to go by the post office. Let me know when they are up and the addy. I will put some on my small server, but put a link to all of them on your site.

Thanks,
Greg

Way to go Mike!!! Ryan and I are talking about coming out for the July and/or September event. I wasn't aware you were going to compete or we would have tried to make it out for this event. Anyway, great job!! is on me when we meet again!!:D

Bigdude, thanks for the compliment. However, I did not take the photos of Buddy's exit from that angle. I was standing up on top of Hardcore when you guys went through. Mine are from the side and a little fuzzy. They would be similar to the angle of the one of spaceghost. I will see if I can clean a few of mine up to give you guys a side shot.

Also, I do remeber Buddy yelling for you to pull on the rope. You said you were!!! Guess he could feel the angle fairly well.

I tried to clean it up, it does look a little better.

I had to follow that! From the top it looked gnarly, but that shot is awesome. Bigdude put some ass in that one, and Buddy trusted him and eased thru it.

Kinda puts things in perspective doesn't it!

I on the other hand had a different plan, hahahaha.

That exit was all Darrel's idea. I disagree'd with him on the exit gate, but he assured me that it could be done, so I let it go. Man, am I glad I did... that exit had some of the most interesting course exits I've seen, including one that rolled on his lid out of the course with no penalty.
