I've asked like 5 people here locally and can't get a straight answer out of anyone, so I'm pissed that I have to post this here. anyways how much oil should an explorer 31spline 8.8 with a rockcrusher cover hold? I've always just filled it up till I can poke my pinky through the fill hole (in the housing) and feel oil. there's a fill hole on the cover that's higher than the factory fill but if it's too full I'll blow seals correct? like I said I've always just filled it through the factory fill hole and haven't had any problems but what quantity of oil should it hold?

No, it won't hurt the seals, but the oil that blows out of the breather tube will get all over the place.

Stock 8.8" is 2.5 quarts. An aftermarket cover typically adds another pint or so to that.
