: More bragging...
JoshC 06-24-2002, 07:08 AM So, I pulled my hubs from my new Dodge front 44...
:skull: 1.5" 35 spline outers!:skull:
I'll snap a pic when I get a chance. A pair of CTM's and custom inners, and I'm thinkin I'm done.
Monkeyboy 06-24-2002, 12:47 PM Sweeeeeet.
harkinoff 06-24-2002, 03:12 PM you better find extra shafts, I broke my dodge 44 plenty of times, the outers are different from chevy outers, the dodge isn't as common, better yet quit messin around with that little 44 and go 60:flipoff2: ya keep making fun of my paint:zzz:

Where'd it break?
Seriously though... Your painted shit is GAY! :flipoff2:
harkinoff 06-24-2002, 04:16 PM ring gear once , one inner shaft, one outer shaft, and u-joints, I take it you dont paint anything, whats gay about orange, do you have a complex:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Tony Sobrito 06-24-2002, 07:58 PM is that a unit bearing front dodge dana 44 from a mid 70's dodge full time 4wd truck? the one with the poor front wheel bearing design that most people swap out?

Are you offering your advice as if you know what the fuk you are talking about? Explain to me how it's a poor bearing design. Demonstrate the facts that led you to beleive that these bearings are prone to failure. :rasta: :flipoff2:
You must be getting a 60 if your talkin 44 shit like this. :D  :D Give us an update!

Tony Sobrito 06-25-2002, 11:30 AM check with the dodge boys...
IIRC
you cant adjust the wheel bearings
its full time no locking hub available
the knuckle will not accept a gm type dana 44 spindle
if you break the stub you cant drive (not sure on this one)
common upgrade is to swap to gm knuckles/spindles
/hubs etc..
yea i got a few 60'fs

Thanks for the heads-up. None of the issues above are an issue for me except the "if you break the stub you can't drive". I'll follow up with the Dodge boys. Thanks.

Joe V 06-25-2002, 01:05 PM I would think that the 30 spline inners would fail before the 35 outers...As far as a actual spline failure goes.

That's what I'm thinking. Look at the pic. The outer is VERY short too. I don't see any weak point past the u-joint.
I've been searching and all I can find is guys SAYING this setup sucks. Mostly because it does for these guys. They don't maintain the bearings.
Just like the guys who don't repack their rear Scout 44's.
Monkeyboy 06-25-2002, 05:32 PM Seems that if I broke one or the other I'd rather fix the one you have Josh.
One huge fawking nut and a few mor fasteners and it's ready to swap in new parts.
Break as standard axle with locking hubs and you have to remove all the bolts in the hub remove the inner parts with special tools and snapring pliars. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
I like less moving parts and less things to wrench when yo uneed to dismantle in a hurry

Coming from you that's pretty funny :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Tony Sobrito 06-25-2002, 07:41 PM i dont think its a lubrication issue....
it looks like a semi float stub shaft to me.
the stub is also carrying or transferring the load like a spindle would in a ff.
or am i

I'm thinking real hard here....:nuke:
The entire bearing assembly seems to be pressed onto the rotor.
Now, push this entire rotor/bearing assy onto the knuckle and hears what happens...
The bearing assy slides into a bearing sleeve within the knuckle. Not only that, but I have to put a socket through a hole in the rotor and tighten 5 bolts that keep the bearing/rotor assy attached to the knuckle.
Shouldn't that mean that the load is being carried by the entire knuckle out assy?
I don't have my cam with me or I'd snap a couple pics.

Hey, the July trip to Con is approaching, stop fawking around with the front hubs and brakes that work fine, and focus on the other 900 things that need to be fixed before the trip. :flipoff2:

Unfortunately this is a linear process. The knuckle is getting machined right now. I pick it up tomorrow.
Square tube spring perches are being fabbed up now. Pick up Thur or Fri.
Don't know what the fuk I'm going to do about a waggy pitman arm? Probably going to skip it for now. Should be enough thread on the TRE's to deal with the swap.
Studs/Cone washer/Nuts. Parts Mike'll have them here shortly.
Wheels should be here some time next week.
Then.... Drive lines. Right when I run out of money.... I still need drivelines!
Monkeyboy 06-26-2002, 10:21 AM Josh I have a Waggy Pitman arm you can Borrow until My CJ needs it again :D
I will pull it off my steering box and drop it off at your house this week when I drop off the bender:D
Your welcome:flipoff2:
Monkeyboy 06-26-2002, 10:23 AM And for the front shaft I have my Square drive shaft we can finish up for you:flipoff2:

Hell yeah. You can do it with bald 36's! Just empty the water from your cooler onto the granite. The colder the water, the better your traction. :flipoff2:
