: Who has seen the movie shooter?
Doc Holiday13 11-14-2007, 08:42 AM I wanna know what gun he was using when he shot the can of beans. I know the majority of the movie he was using a Rem mod 700, but the other gun looked like a 300 ultra mag based on the size of the bullet he dropped in.

*edit update
Okay found it its a .408 made by cheyenne tactical
Gozuki 11-14-2007, 08:54 AM Looked like 50bmg to me...
4in100 11-14-2007, 08:58 AM missed the edit. I've got a magazine at home with an entire article on that weapon. Also, several youtube videos exist, including the episode of Future Weapons.
Cue-Ball 11-14-2007, 09:01 AM John, I think you have a problem.

I know I do. And reason I knew this was I asked about it earlier in the year. :flipoff2: but didn't specifically reference the movie....witty sirch banter removed.:D

why's that?
Redmist 11-14-2007, 09:47 AM Sorry my bad... I thought the original post was asking "I wanna know what gun he was using when he shot the can of beans."
I then posted the Maker of the rifle as well as the website that it is found on!!!
http://www.cheytac.com/M-200.html
I went on to say that they are made in Idaho (My home state) and also provided the information about me not giving them my money...
Fuckers! :flipoff2: :D
Redmist 11-14-2007, 09:52 AM Forgot to add the Why's that part...
CheyTac is undeserving of my money because I feel they ripped off the EDM Windrunner. for the most part...
And they will not sell a full Mil spec rifle to simple civilians. They call the civi model a "de-accurized" version.
Give me a break!

LMAO... BMG REFUSES to sell to the CA government because of their gun laws. :flipoff2:

Paul Gagnon 11-15-2007, 05:16 AM I wanna know what gun he was using when he shot the can of beans.
It was beef stew, not beans.
Jason R 11-15-2007, 01:41 PM So what's the deal with the .408 round? Common at all?
4in100 11-15-2007, 01:43 PM If I recall, the rounds that were first used were formed on a lathe in house by cheytac
Doc Holiday13 11-15-2007, 02:00 PM If I recall, the rounds that were first used were formed on a lathe in house by cheytac
Not hard at all. Just get some brass, bronze or copper round stock and have at it.
Buddy has a windrunner, ive shot it a few times. its 50 cal tho. Looks identical to the one in the movie.
4in100 11-15-2007, 02:02 PM Not hard at all. Just get some brass, bronze or copper round stock and have at it.
Meaning it wasn't a round the just picked and said "hey let's make something that uses this!"
Redmist 11-15-2007, 09:58 PM Correct, the .408 rounds are cut on a lathe.
Jason R 11-16-2007, 09:21 AM That'd be great. Buy a rifle that you have to custom make rounds for. What's so great about the .408!?

all accounts show it to be more accurate than a .50 at even longer distances
all accounts show it to be more accurate than a .50 at even longer distances
Ive heard just the opposite, but just what i have heard. We have 2 .50's we shoot on a regular basis thru fall winter and spring. I just bought a ar30 in 338 lapua. Its a tack driver out a good ways but once you get past 1000 yards its not near what it the .50's shoot.

i just assumed cheytac was using edm rifles but i learned something new today here and comparing their web sites. they are VERY similar looking.

check out the website..........
it penetrated 1/2" steel better than the .50 and it is the record holder for distance.
guess that means its pretty good
4runner 11-18-2007, 05:52 PM anyone watch teh extra stuff on the dvd?
when Wahlberg was training for the movie, the military guy took him shooting, two days in he was hitting targets at 1100 yds...amazing guy.

anyone notice at the begining of the movie when he pulls out the barrett and shoots at the helicopter and downs it.........the barret is the 82A1 which is semi auto and he recocks it after every shot, managing to turn his 10 round .50 cal into a 5 round:shaking:
I wondered why he kept doing that in the movie. The other .50 we got is an 82a1 and its semi auto. Wasn't sure if he had a special one or what..
Redmist 11-19-2007, 02:35 PM It was because they were using blanks.
They should have done something like compressed air to get it to cycle.

yeah to anyone that knows what they are looking at, it was dumb. he kept doing it over and over again. couldnt believe they let something that obvious slide. should just spent the $ on 10 rounds of ammo and fired the thing.
Jason R 11-19-2007, 03:09 PM There were numerous weapon in accuracies in the film.
How about when he is changing mags on the M4/AR and he ejects a non-empty mag, sticks in a new mag, and then grabs the charging handle and a live round ejects out of the chamber.
On the other hand...would that technically be a combat reload, just so he was sure he wasn't empty? I dunno.

So, is Wahlburg going to stay on target when he's cycling a right hand action with his left hand?
:flipoff2:
yes, I didn't notice his hands either...someone on another forum did

He only has one round. So it doesn't matter if he shoots it behind his back, he won't be chambering a new round.:flipoff2:
ogreshooter 11-25-2007, 05:09 PM Well, technically speaking, I have seen a large number of right hand shooters shoot left handed and cycle the gun with the right. I guess it is so that they can keep their eyes through the scope...
Just my .02 though...dont shoot me! I have had to shoot my rifle left handed and kept opening my right eye and fawking me up. And really, who except a military trained shooter can really expect to hit a can of stew at 2000 meters anyway??? (My math shows that to be close to 2 miles....)

1.24 miles, 2 kilometers:D i doubt there are very many military trained or civilian shooters that could really make a hit on the first shot. that is hollywood. it is possible but very improbable.

Or, uh, just edited out the part where he racks it by hand, and cut to a different camera for the next shot fired. ;)
But hey, to 99% of the public, the click-CLACK of a hand cycled action looks cool. Just like all those crazy movie SWAT officers who don't chamber a round until they're kicking in the door... Then there's the action hero wielding a single-action Hi-Power or 1911. You know, the one who has the hammer down until he really wants the thug to reveal the location of the evil mastermind's lair?
Hearing a hammer thumbed back / safety deactivated ever time someone produces a Glock is still the best though. That happened several times in Bourne film #3. ;)

Can of stew is pretty small, at that range hitting a 4x8 sheet of plywood with the .50 is difficult at best for me anyway.
Im still getting used to my .338 and I shot a 14" 5 shot group at 1200yards the first day I shot it. I went threw 4 boxes of ammo that day.
Doc Holiday13 11-25-2007, 07:58 PM ................

Slowerthanu 11-27-2007, 06:18 PM I do combat reloads on my AR in training, but I never pull back the charging handle unless my instructor throws a damn dummy round in my mag.:D
300sniper 12-04-2007, 10:18 PM so i finally got around to watching the making for this movie. what is the deal with the military sniper explaining that hollywood isn't graphic enough when people get shot from long range. he said that arms go flying 200 feet away:confused:

The comparision is .50 BMG to .408 CheyTac... not .338 lapua
It was because they were using blanks.

Why not use a blank firing adapter to cycle the action like on other semi's

Ask the rental agency they rented the weapon from. And for the Average Joe it doesn't matter if it was really semi auto or not. They don't know the Gun only that it is a Sniper Rifle And Averge Joe general knowledge of sniper rifles might be that bolt actions are a bit more accurate, so thats what they went with.
