Any of you bastids get out and wheel? work on your rig? or did ya just sit on the puter winding your willy?

I made a trip to Nachees, played on the Moon Rocks and Funny Rocks. Really pushed my steering set up and it didn't break:rolleyes: Stood the truck on its tail, carb was pissed:mad: Came back sat evening, then got up sunday and started installing my projection, of corse I did it all Half assed, using cheap stainless hose, ect. It will probably only last a week or so of mall wheelin:flipoff2: As soon as the projection is finished I'm gonna go really half assed and install my warn shafts and CTM's, those will only last a few trips also:rolleyes:

Rick welded the extension on my link bar last night. If you remember, the bar was rocking in the threads of the heim joint upper end on the main bar. He had some old link bars, sch 40 with heim nuts already welded on in his garage. I cut 2 inches off the end, and he welded it onto the end of the main bar, with the heim threaded through. It got really tight when he first finished welding it, a breaker bar couldn't even turn it, but I let it cool, then poured atf in from the opposite side, let that work its way through the threads (took 10 minutes for it to leak through) put a bar on it, and it turned easily. Now, it can be turned by hand. Loosened right up. No more rocking in the threads. Haven't put it on yet, but probably tonight.

I also put new brake hoses on the front. My old ones were in really sorry shape. Brakes are still kind of spongy. I think I need to rebleed the rear.

Hammertited a bunch of stuff under my rig - cross member, shackle, link plates on axle, then just about everything else I could hit with the spray can ;)

Put my extended shackles back on also. Took a couple degrees of caster away, I still have 3 or 4 degrees, so it drives OK, but I did like the 7 degrees I had before. Discovered that the bushing in the bottom of the shackle, driver front, is completely deteriorated. DK why. The rest look great, but that one is shot. Odd.

I broke my junk - AGAIN!

Climbed into the 1T Travelette Saturday morning, drove 240 miles @ 55mph.. unloaded, pitched the tent in the wind and just about lost the dang thing.. had to throw all of my toolboxes inside to keep it from taking flight.

Unhooked the trailer, scooted into Billings and the Olive Garden for Dinner..

Got up Sunday morning, went racing.

Michelle was the first one to run, and ended up second in Women's V8. She was complaining it was cutting out a bit at the end of the race - dunno if it was out of gas, or if I've started smashing the fuel line at the body mount.. dumped 5gal in and more Octane boost before I ran, AND turned on the electric Carter pump, and *I* had no problems with it cutting out.

The other option is a corroded terminal on the fuse block (yeah, that doesn't happen after sitting out in the snow all winter..)

Then I ran, near the end of the pack..

Had a good run going, might've been close for 3rd..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/6_23_2002/pic11[1].jpg

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/6_23_2002/pic50.jpg

Then I got a little too brave.

I'd told Michelle to take this spot easy - it was a big jump that drops off, then a smaller jump right after - "This could hurt.. go nice"

She did - and did great (even off the sheer drop-off portion, too)

Then we watched a Blazer go around.. first time around (2 laps) he did it pretty nice "There, that's just about right.."

On his second lap I told her, "He's going too fast.. " sure enough "crunch".. lost his driveshaft in the dirt and other things, but managed to cross the finish line and took 1st place (wow!)

So, my run.. first time over, nice n' easy.. second time.. I can see the finish line.. "I'll just hop the first jump and make the backside a little smoother before the second jump... " Hey, I'm right in front of the stands, might as well make it a little interesting..

Turns out the 1" I had taken out of the front DS wasn't enough.. another fawkin' Dana 20 and adapter smoked. :-(

I still had a little spline showing when I sucked the suspension down to the stops on the trailer.. I guess landing like this pushes things a bit farther rearward. *grin*

So.. off to the junkyard this week for a Dana 20, and off to the driveline shop and have another inch removed and put this problem to rest.. for GOOD. :mad3:

I didn't get to run the Baja.. so I grabbed two come-alongs out of the toolbox and "winched" the Dana 20 back against the rear of the transmission and limped it onto the trailer, puking ATF all over the deck..

Even backed it off when we got home, but then it popped off and I couldn't get it cinched back up for the drive into the shop.

Another 5 hour drive home...

I need to either add the shroud back in, or install an aux electric fan on the radiator - climbing hills it likes to get a bit warm now that's it's summer.

I'm also wanting to route a cold-air intake to the headlight or bumper to help - once it starts to get hot, it sucks that hot air into the motor and wants to ping, which makes it want to run hotter, which makes it want to ping MORE..

At least I backed the timing off.. last trip it was at 15BTDC.. no wonder the dang thing was pinging.. closer to 6-7 now, and if it would just stay cool..

I built half arssed junk all weekend. Went to pull-a-part and found little treasures. Thanks to a few friends, I now have a working ingition and steering column. It starts easy enough now. Next thing to do is start painting nuts and bolt to color coordinate the entire project (farmers nightmare) mostly IH with crap loads of what ever else I can got to fit.
Worked on Bronco too.
getting there one of these days.

I took my parents wheeling.

Mom and Dad fought over who was going to get to drive my moms rig. They ended up switching seats every mile or so.

First run for my Heep with the new suspension. I need to work a few things out but over all it fawking rocked.

Looks like I will be going to 35"s.

I think I found one for him on the way home from Slick rock yesterday

$1000 bucks or best offer sitting on the side of the road.

Took pics for him and everything

He needs a rig that will get the whole family on the trail.

Josh I found some cool places to camp on the slick rock trail.
Cool places to swim too. I'll post pics in Gen. 4x4 tonight.

Mike, you don't say "I need your help".
You say "I am having a BBQ and have beer". Matter of fact. I have 2 or 3 new Scout guys in the neighborhood and want to have a BBQ/wrenchathon the weekend before the B-day run at Rubicon. Keep your ears open. I'll be posting soon.

Got to check out a new wheelin' ranch here in central texas. 800 acres of nothing but granit rocks and boulders the size of a small trailer home. I don't have pics but you can see some of the wheelin' that was had at the Austin River Rats page, not my club btw, but the guy took an @ssload of cool pics.

http://www.rock-it-land.com/austinriverrats/main/granitehills/index.html

BTW, that's not my scout in the pics. I wasn't cool enough to have this guy take a pic of my scout.

Ohh and I crunched my rear cross member, both sides outside the frame decided they would act as a read spoiler and folded up 90*. Looks like it's time to build a new rear bumper/crossmember/tire carrier...

The wheelin' was awesome, the weather was something else, not a cloud in the sky, well almost, and about 95...I know, I shouldn't complain. But it'll definately be much nicer to go out there in the fall, winter, and spring.

I finished the value body for the tranny swap, including install of the shift kit. The rest of my rebuild parts showed up today.

Oh and Tom, looks like I have a D20 adapter, let me know if you're interested.

Mike,
Don't worry about it. I'll have one in just a couple of weeks. Either the 13 or 14th.

You should still stop by for a beer after you get a little settled.

Well, I'm now on the Bulk Discount Program at my favorite (visit over lunch) junkyard..

Just bought a twin-stick Dana 20 that was lying loose in one of the sheds for $75.

There were a few more there, which is good.. next one is $50, next is $40! :-)
