I want to swap a Torgque Flite 904 into my 79 CJ-5 with a 96 SBC. I have SOA, rear springs shackled front and rear, four link, and a reverse cut Dana 60. I have lots of travel therefore short drive shafts are a critical issue.
The TF 904 was behind an Iron Duke therefore it should bolt directly to my SBC and Dana 300 without any adapters.
My questions are:
1. What numbers should I look for on the 904 to make sure it is what I think it is?
2. What do I do for a flex plate and torque converter?
3. Can I put a TF 999 2.74:1 first gear in the 904?
4. Is there any lower first gear available?
5. Is there a reverse manual shift valve body available for this trans? I want the reverse manual so a first to reverse shift would be easy when on steep ledges and I don’t need to worry about kick-down linkage.
