: Will my T-Case Hold Up???

I´ve finally got a line on that long-searched for Suzuki 2.5 V6 motor. Now I just gotta convince the wife........:p

Anyhoo, this motor puts out 144 CV @ 6200 rpm and 21.2 kg-m @ 3500 rpm. Will my 4.89 t-case hold up??

BTW, I can choose between a 5-speed or auto tranny. Any opinions??

TIA

From what I've seen it's a mouting issue. If you've got the mounts beafed up and can help take some of the load off the t-case attachments points they seem to hold up great. Personally, I'm real interested to see out the 6:1 cases fair..... ;)

FYI - for those of us lazy Americans.... 153 ft/lbs torque - 193 HP (guessing a bit here, CV? same as kilowatt) :rasta:

Yeah, I´m kinda partial to the manual box myself. The 5-speed also has the benefit of being lighter (60 kg vs. 90 kg).

The motor itself weighs in at 120 kg...

Actually, there are 0,75 CV in 1,0 kilowatt. Therefore, after then converting to HP, it turns out that
1,0 CV = 1,006 HP

I think for our purposes, we can say the CV and HP are the same thing!!:D :D

The Zuk V6 is good for 144 HP. My Sami should scoot.....:p

Hope you're ready for an eye-opener.

My wife got her 99 GV because she HAD to have the 2.5 V6. Made her 95 4-door Sidekick look like a dog. At 40,000 miles, the timing chain tensioners went out. Replaced under warranty. At 80,000 miles, the timing chain tensioners are out again. This time, it's not covered by warranty. They wanted $1,200 just for labor. I'm doing it myself, starting this week. Because it's such a pain in the ass, I'm replacing all the chains, sprockets, guides, and tensioners, as well as the water pump. Total cost JUST FOR THE PARTS was about $1,500. She loves her GV, so I better get good at doing this. To replace one of the timing chains you have to remove the camshafts.

To get at the chains, you have to remove the radiator, the rack & pinion, the front diff, the intake manifold, the oil pan, and several other parts. Holy fawk...

Thanks for the input, Bob. Your info is in-line with what I had heard from a guy in New Zealand, but a little time-shifted in the years. The guy told me that Suzuki re-designed the timing chain assembly on the V6 motor in mid 1998,at least for the Zuks in NZ and that this problem that you describe no longer occurs...

Figures - they knew about the problem in 98 and fixed it in NZ, but chose not to use the re-designed motor in the US on the Grand Vitara?

Prolly a "pipeline" issue... They had to find some market where Zuks are relatively unpopular to dup those "defective" motors that had already beem manufactured. What better place than the USA!!:p

But Wait!!!

I have the Suzuki parts manual for the SQ625 - Grand Vitara - there is NO DIFFERENCE in the engines from 1999 to 2001!

It would appear that they're STILL DUMPING them!

Now this is beginning to get strange...

And scary.....

Now I´m gonna dig into this a little before I trade my weak but very reliable 1.3 for a powerful but POS 2.5.........
