Anyone ponyed up for one of these yet, I'd like some feed back on how well the x-mode feature works. Seems like I'm always doing welding in tight spots where the sensors on my old hood would be blocked.

Ive got one but I have only ran about 4" of weld with it so far.
I have to say its pretty damn nice.
I am interested in how the x-mode works as well, so much of what I do I end up with either interference from sunlight or issues with the sensor being obstructed.

Sounds like a lot of the same features of a Jackson EQC helmet. That's what I've been using the past couple of years and absolutely love it. VERY rare I get flashed and being able to flip it over to a shade 5 for cutting is nice.

Iv'e got the elite hood...what is supposed to be different about the digital?
edit: looks like it does a better job of "sensing" the arc and it has an LCD? I can see how it might be nice if you spend alot of time messing with the settings (like if you go back and forth from mig to tig alot for example). As far as the better sensing, Iv'e never had a problem with all my sensors being blocked and causing it not to dim

I've had one for 4 years now. Its done well. The head gear stripped out fast on mine and a friends. I talked to a rep and he said the material used in the head gear (plastic teeth) was too soft and he gave me new head gear.

The new digital Elite's X mode actually senses the electromagnetic field created by the welding process. If you turn on X mode it will flip dark even if you aren't looking at the arc.
Good for low amperage or weirdly lit areas
Bad if you are welding by other welders that may effect your hood.

I wouldn't say that its bad for welding by other welders. Its effected, but then you just have a normal welding lense. Actually I was just using it today next to a welder all day. Just flip down like a non-auto darkening.

Ummm... If I pay the money for an auto-dark helmet I'd sort of like the advantage of it functioning as an auto-dark helmet...:flipoff2:
If you can turn off the "X mode" I'd guess you still get the benefit of a normal auto-dark. But good to know if you are working in a shop with multiple welders.

ya i understand, working in a shop with other welders is no problem. The situation i was using as an example was a co worker and I both welding the piss outta snow plow buckets welding about 1 foot from each other at times. Now if someone was welding at another welding table next to you just adjust the sensitivity dial so it doesnt darken when there welding. I have found even with the multiple sensors it sometimes doesnt darken when welding in tight places under vehicles.

Thanks for the explanation - wasn't sure if it was something that anyone else welding within twenty feet of you would set it off. Will still stick with my "regular" Elite helmet for now.
