Looking for the best price on 1978-1984 Caddy El Durado calipers for a disc brake conversion. Loaded would be nice, but not necessary. Has integrated parking brake. If anyone has a great price on them please share.

Thanks.

Correct... Now, allow me to be more specific. Best price on calipers that are reman'd. :)

Sorry I can't help you with the cheapest rates on Caddy calipers.
You've probably noticed as I did, the difference in price between the Caddy's and say the conventional calipers.
A very knowledgable person (on this board) suggested that I lose the cables and set up line locks instead.
I talked to a tech here in PA that does inspections, He told me that they (line locks) would pass as e-brake.
Just a possible option for you to look at.
Good luck.

Wonder if VA would accept that..... I'll put in a call today. My only question with linelocks is that don't they use electricity (meaning have a current draw) on the battery when they are turned on? The truck in question sees some road duty, but its mostly a weekend warrior. With those would I be greeted every weekend with having to jump start my truck??? Better put, do you know of a linelock that is cable or not electrically activated? And wouldn't the cost of those things (I saw them for around $200?) be more than just going ahead and getting the caddy calipers?

line locks are not acceptable as an e-brake. they are not legal here in nj,and they shouldn't be anywhere else, either. the point of the ebrake is to have a redundant way to stop your vehicle in the even the hydraulics let out, not hold it in a sloped parking lot.
if you lose a brake line, your line locks will be worthless.
look into a t-case ebrake, which IMO is an acceptable substitute for the caddy calipers, since it doesn't really cost all that much more over new calipers, and the caddy calipers kinda suck for stopping power, anyway.

If I was using some kind of standard T-Case that'd be the way I'd go in a heart beat, but this is for a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser (FJ80) w/ a full time center-locking tcase. Aside from Toyota OEM and a set of low range gears out of Aussie nothing gets made for this case. :(

check with Jess and High Angle Driveline.
if youv'e got an FJ80, then you need a 94+ rear axle with discs, floater, and locker:flipoff2:
and you could always slap in a Dana 18 with offset rear output and an ebrake, I hear the bolt patterns are pretty close.
and if you're gonna us ethe caddy calipers, I think autozone has the best price. I have cores with the levers and springs if you need em.

I have a mechanical e-brake. I have 4wheel disc's which means I have 4-wheel disc non-electric e-brake. I have Caddy calipers. I don't use the cable e-brake and am looking to buy replacement calipers without the e-brake. I can get them new for 100 (pair). The only problem without have the cable hooked up is that the e-brake adjusts the discs.

Umm, on the e-brake thing, yes if the brake lines failed I'd have no e-brake. I can however put the tranny in 1st or reverse and it's not going anywhere. Sure it's not a more expense option and the gearing only works if your not planning on going anywhere. But if my brake lines or .... has failed making my line lock useless, I probably shouldn't be driving it.

Couse on the tranny/tcase/pinion e-brake if your driveshafts break.....

You're right about AutoZone... They've got them for about $40 cheaper than Parts America, and $80 or so cheaper than car quest. Morse? I guess is the rebuilder? Never heard of them.

Now if I had rear discs, floater, and locker, I'd have an FZJ wouldn't I... Besides, ever put so much into a truck that you don't want to see it go? That tired ol' 3FE gets replaced next week (or at least starts) with a stroked 350. Should add a little life to the old girl.

So, Sundowner, how much you want for the cores? NJ isn't to bad from VA, and I'm not really in any hurry cause the brackets aren't even made yet.

2 sixpacks @ $6.99/ea =$13.98 +shipping :D

I got mine at autozone for $40 a piece, but there was an $80 core on them. Still go to the PNP and get some for your core for $5. Mine weren't loaded.

If you are doing the TSM kit, pay attention to the bleeding prcedure, it will save you some time and headaches.

I can get those caddie callipers for you for 69 bucks that includes the core charge of ten bucks so they are 59 + core. and they do have the e brake stud on them organic pads are 8 bucks also.

If you want good brakes, forget the Caddy calipers and just use the front calipers from any of the midsize gm cars of those years. They fit the caliper brackets very well and are so available at the salvage yards that they are very inexpensive and you can probably find some that are recently rebuilt and with nearly new pads. Then see about using the driveline brake system available form Jess at high angle drive lines. If he does not have one for your application, he probably will have one in the near future. The Caddy hand brake is next to worthless!

Well went ahead and got the calipers from Autozone... Why are those so cheap compared to Car Quest? Cause they don't come with the parking brake assembly! I've called around to the local junk yards, and there showing nothing :( Can't get Sundowner to reply to PM's either, so is there anyone else out there in the Virgina, MD, WV area that would be willing to pull a set for me and ship (my cost of course)... I'd like to get core out of them, and transfer the parking brake assembly to the new ones.

Oh a seperate note, I've looked, and looked for driveline brakes for an 80 series, (No luck with Jess) found one over in Aussie land, but I don't want to wait 8 weeks for it to get here, and it ended up being around $600 after shipping and money conversion, so I think I'll have to stick with the crappy caddy calipers. Can't be any worse than mud covered drum brakes though. :)

Try car-part.com, I did a search for the 83 caddy eldorado calipers rear. Came up with several who have them, you might try Maryland and West Va. You could buy a set and get the parts you want then turn them in for cores. Andy
