I'm new to toyota's, i've always had jeeps or trackers. My question to all of you guys is, how strong are the fj40 axles. The guy that had this cruiser had 34 TSL under it. Oh, and did any of these axles have limited slip or were they all open diffs.Any info would be helpful . thanks shorty

Depends on the year pre-68 are coarse spline everywhere and fairly weak. 69-75 is coarse spline outers and they held up fine to 34 LTBs for me. After that they are fine spline and are just like mini trucks. I don't think there were any limited slips.

I just did a disc brake conversion on my 69 FJ40. I used the frontend from 86 FJ60. When I took the original apart, it was in pretty good shape. Just seals and bearings wear. My FJ40 has gone through hell and back, so the axles are very reliable.
