View Full Version : Hydro tube bender???
Ok, I might have made my last question too specific, so I will try again.
If you have or have used a hydro bender in the past can you tell me the brand/model and your experience with it. I want to know what everyone is using and what they like and dont like about their current setup. I dont like to buy things twice so I want a bender that can do whatever I need in the future.
I am currently looking at the JMR air/hydro setup, and looking for a good price, but I am more focused on customer service than pricing so any input on that is cool too!!
Thanks in advance,
Dane

i use a JD2 bender which i converted to hydro. its not the best looking but it does a good job. i also used a piece of tape measure to calibrate and do exact bends.
Thanks for the reply!! Anyone else, I cant imagine that everyone is using a manual bender!!

JD2 Model 4 is sweet. Had one at the shop and life great. East to set and reset, anti spring-back, very nice.
Thanks, Ill look into that one as well!!

IMO you will be a lot better off with a decent home grown electric/hydraulic conversion than a factory air/hydraulic.
Well today I pulled the trigger on a JMR air/hydro bender. I will report back and let everyone know how it works out for me!!!

I bought a Protools bender years ago. Converted it to Hydro a cpl years into it. I'm quite satisfied with the bender and it gets a lot of use.

I am converting over the Pro Tools 105 to air over hydro for my project with a kit from Copperhead Fab, they are local to me and have been very generous on cutting custom parts out for numerous projects of mine. I first saw them on the Xtreme 4x4 show. http://copperheadfab.com/index.php?action=productview&productid=162

Definitely not cheap, but I dont like to buy things twice. When I get it set up and bend some shit I will report back with how I like it. I think the selling point was the ability to bend .250 wall, nobody else was willing to tell me that their bender would do that. I know I will only use that in rare cases, but I dont want to try and bend something only to find out my bender isnt up to the task!!

Ok, got the bender yesterday and its SICK!! Unfortunately UPS managed to drop my $500 1.75" die and fawk it up so it looks like the first job with the bender will be some shock hoops for my boy. Trick-Tools is trying to get me another die this week, but I will work with what I have for now. We should have it set up and running tomorrow night and I will report back on how I like it for future searchers.

How did UPS manage to fuck up a 2" solid chunk of steel?

They dropped it on the radius and dented it. Fuck if I know, either way, Im gonna try the die and see if it fawks up my tube, if so Trick Tools will replace it for me, if not then Im one step closer to having something to wheel again!!!!

Very interested to see how you like it, looking at replacing my PT105 with the JMR
Ok, got the bender set up last night only to realize that in the dropping of the 1.75" die ups also lost the follower and the u-clamp. Fawk. Oh well, decided to bend up some simple shock hoops for my buddies sami. Started the first bend and noticed the foot pedal leaking a little fluid. Went thru rechecked the lines and moved on.
This bender is the shit!!!! The degree wheel is super nice and easy to use, all the pins drop in and pull out easily and the complete lack of physical activity it takes to operate is awesome!!! I highly recommend this bender and Trick-Tools as a vendor!!! If I never see another JD2 manual bender again in my life I will be fine with that. This bends smoothly and nicely without any hiccups whatsoever.
Because I have only made a simple bend with this machine I will add more to this post when I get my back half done. It will require more bends on multiple planes, and I think this bender will make it sooo much easier.
