Well 9 times out of 10 (at least for me ;) ) the faulty one has fluid leaking out of the bore.

suuuuuuuuuure. point out the obvious answer. it is an internal master so I can't see it without pulling the trans.

I actually havent even popped teh hood yet.....just trying to figure out if there is a way to test before I begin.

the easiest way to find out is to look. I can kinda see why the jeep guys didn't answer your question, if you haven't even popped the hood yet.

Check the underside of your tranny to see if anything looks wet or dripping. This will tell you it's the slave. The master is on the firewall. Check the inside of your cab and the firewall for fluid.

Enough web wheeling and web wrenching.
Go fawking look under your damn rig in real life dammit.

If you can't find any leaks, I'd pull the master off, and check the seals on the piston (this is what usually goes out.... It will be obvious if it is bad). If you have never taken a MC apart, it is usually very simple. A few simple tools, and some snap ring pliers is all that's required. If the MC looks good, then you know it's the slave, and it's time to pull the tranny.

More then likely it is the internal slave.

I just replaced mine.

Those pesky little internal slaves are notorious for leaking once the Heep has some miles on it.

If there is no fluid leaking from the slave cylinder or the back of the master then it can be an internal leak in the master.

What are the symptoms? Fluid loss? No pedal?

More info needed.

I would have answered this on the Jeep board :flipoff2:

Back when I had a Jeep I replaced my slave cylinder twice in less than 20,000 due to leaks. They are notorious for leaking and you can't always see the fluid leaking out of the bell housing. Check to see if the fluid keeps getting low in the master cylinder.
