In the latest 4wheel drive suv, they have an article with a 3b that has a quote that reads "On the front axle, toby slid the axlehousing inside a long tube that alows the front suspension to articulate as much as 32 inches with no binding." Looking at the pic, it has some hiem joint thing on top of the tube.

what he did was cut the axle tube and thread both sides. then inserted a theaded nipple. there was a lot of talk about it 2 or 3 years ago on the EBML list. some liked it, some went to the wriisted arm and some like me went to a 4 link. it works but seems like to a lot of work to me.
