CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico—Starting his 70th birthday party a bit early, venerable veteran desert
racer Rod Hall lit the candles on his celebration by earning a record 19th class win during the final hours of
the legendary 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race Thursday. As the final checkered flag
drop early Thursday evening for the last of a race-record 239 official finishers in the 40th annual Tecate
SCORE Baja 1000, it was obvious that another incredible and colorful chapter had been added to the
legacy of this popular desert race down the majestic Baja California, Mexico, peninsula.
The personable Hall who lives by the adage that ‘you have to first finish, in order to finish first,’ split the
driving with his oldest son Josh who lumbered their Team Hummer H3 into the finish line just before
sunrise on Thursday, earning the Stock Mini class win and yet another chapter for his family in his
remarkable desert racing career. With 19 class wins, he is the only racer who has competed in a car or
truck in all 40 Baja 1000 races, Hall’s son Chad was also a class winner, coming in a few hours before his
famous father to win the Stock Full class in the very first race of a Hummer H3 Alpha, earning his sixth
career class win in the race. Between them, Rod, Josh and Chad Hall are the winningest family in the
history of the race with 29 career class wins.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HALL FAMILY AND TO HUMMER,THE H3 AND THE NEW H3 ALPHA...

Looking at the times. The Alpha ran about 4 hours faster:eek:

Are the trucks similar except for the drivetrain?

H3 Alpha has a V-8 and cast iron front axle, The H3 has an Inline 5 and an aluminum front axle.

Sorry, I know that, what I mean is are the race trucks similar in other ways - suspenions, etc.

The new Alpha H3 is an awesome machine, and Chad and Sam Edgar drove a good, smart race in a very very competitive class, there were 6 Dodge trucks, 1 or 2 Fords, our new H2 SUT and 2 Toyotas in the Stock Full class!! My brother was Chad's Co Dawg in the race, so I am happy to see them win:D

The Alpha H3 runs the big Fox 4.4" bypass shocks, where the I5 Stock Mini H3 runs the smaller 3" and 3.5" Fox shocks. They are similar, but different race trucks, there are a lot of minor differences between the two. Obviously the Alpha has WAY more power, and a bigger fuel cell to delever the additional fuel to Hall Ass (pun intended)

Rod, Mike W. and Josh had a hell of a race to the finish in the S. Mini H3. A rear spring broke in a silt bed when the H3 slid into another vehicle (silt is a crazy place to try to drive through, bad things tend to happen there) The H3 lost it's lead while we changed the spring at approximately mile 1000ish. Josh pushed hard, and managed to pass the Toyota driven by Rod, Rhys, and Ryan Millen.

At the last BFG pit, the H3 was about 30 seconds in front of the Toyota FJ cruiser, but Josh pulled about a 10 minute lead when he crossed the finish line. I dont think the FJ can run the pace of the H3 when pushed hard. Josh had to finish at least about 1.5 minutes ahead of the FJ to get the win, due to corrected time, good to see close racing at the end of a 40 hour race!! Had we had any problems with the spring change, the win could have been lost, but our team worked really good together. We all despite everyone being tired and fatigued got that H3 back moving quicly, I am proud to be a small part of that effort.

I'm guessing you are a big part of the effort. Awesome job guys. Makes me want to sell the LC and buy an H3 Alpha:eek:
