I was wondering if anyone knows where you can buy an engine hoist of this size. I have looked and not been able to find anything this big. Fully extended it is 5ft. wide, 10ft. long, and over 10ft. tall. The main frame is 4x4x.25 wall and the extensions are 3.5x3.5x.188 wall. It has an 8 ton ram. It is a beast!

The reason I ask is because I'm moving out of state and this thing is just too big to take with me and I would like to have another one of this size one day as it has been extremely useful to me. I bought it from some factory that didn't need it anymore and it doesn't appear to be homemade.

Also any idea on what it would be worth?

Looks like a regular harbor freight unit to me..

117" = just shy of 10 feet.

umm, no. that thing is twice the size of the HF one. just compare it to the set of shop lights next to it.

The one pictured has the feet and boom extended.

The HF picture has the feet and boom all the way in.

Guy says about 10' tall, the HF says 117 inches.

looks like the kind that they have at the local rental yard...any chance it's homemade? I like that it has casters on the front...I guess with one that big you'd have to have them but I wish my normal sized one had them...gets to be a pain moving it around a crowded shop with the straight front wheels

Thank you, I was looking at the harbor freight one and was thinking that one isn't nearly as big as mine. I've picked up the whole front of my 4runner with mine by the bumper and that harbor freight one looks like it would fold up like a lawn chair if I tried that.

So no one has seen these big ones for sale anywhere? I guess if I can't find one to buy, I will take measurements off this one before I sell it and make one.

It doesn't really appear to be homemade and I've never seen the ones at the rental yard.

yeah, I can see how that would suck.

I've lifted the front of a 2 ton truck with my 10 year old HF hoist before... looks can be deceiving.

I have lifted entire trucks with my HF lift to remove trannies. When I assembled my lift, my HF lift was able to lift the parts tall enough to put the end pieces together.

If I wasn't sick, I'd drive up and buy that thing from you, it looks like it would be a good second hoist for me.

The HF hoists get a lot of bad press, but with one exception I've seen here, they seem to hold up, mine has lifted everything I've asked it to, including my 14X 48 lathe.

You pretty much have to find another shop or factory closing down to get one of those for a reasonable price. Just check anywhere that sells big shop equipment, i.e. tire changing machines and wheel balancers, frame repair racks, etc. Big hoists like that are $$$.

If I were you, I'd make measurements before you sell it. Or rely on sheer luck to find another one on the cheap.

I got that same exact lift off of Craigslist in DC.

Got it for $50. Instead of selling it for your move, why not break it down and take it with you?

When I got mine, it was fully dissasembled, I got all the pieces in the hatch of my VW Golf.

Those rigs are the shit, I've used mine to lift the CJ, and a Waggy to get the tranny out.
