So helps us out. Under normal conditions shooting store bought ammo what range could these calibers kill a deer at

.223
.243
30-06
270
270 short mag
300
308
22-250
30-30

.223 kinda small for dear
.243
30-06 1000m
270
270 short mag
300
308 1000m
22-250 also small
30-30 150-200m
44 mag(pistol) 50m
.357 mag 100-150m from a carbine
7mm ultra mag

I know that you can hit a 12" target at 1000m with the 223 and the 22-250, but I don't have a clue about hunti ng dear with them.

Pick up a copy of "Ammo & Ballistics" by Bob Forker. It lists the spec's on most common off the shelf ammo. For deer, the magic number for energy is 1000 ft lbs at the animal. Whatever range any of those rounds can carry about 1000 ft lbs out to is their range on a deer.

To add to that...I've seen deer drop dead at 560 yds with a .300 Win Mag

Where's the vid where some guy is shooting like 45 MOA from a folding table at a deer in the next county?

As to the .22-250, I can attest to some prairie dogs meeting their demise from about 3 miles out.....:flipoff2:

i think if you are capable of hitting it, a deer would drop dead from a .300 win mag at 1000 yards.

that would probably be the 45* MOA :smokin:

At 3 miles you'd need a tower to see around the curvature of the earth and compensate for its rotation. :flipoff2:

i've seen many deer taken down at 400 yds with a 22-250. it is very effective if you a good shot.

That's a good round. IIRC, in Kalifornia, the minimum deer cartridge is listed as .243. Things may have changed, but they used to nix anything with a .22 cal profile. Crazy.
