Well it looks like the new house will be done about the 1st week in Jan 08. So I need to start realy thinking about the Jeep Shed. I have just under 3 acres in Rippon WV. I've looked at some 40 x 40 steel buldings but there was an add for a 40 x 60 pole barn in the local paper for $19,000 install on your lot. The estimates I have for the steel bulding are about $13,000 but I have to put it up. What do you guys think? Oh my budget for the whole thing is $30,000

i doubt the 19,000 dollars would be realistic. we have similar ad's in our local paper, but they are generally for a building with no concrete or dirt work. also is typically just a couple doors (probably sliding doors and not roll up doors). by the time you get all the options you want, it will be quite a bit more.
depending on what all you want, 30k might be do-able. i was quoted 34k for a 40x60x14 pole building with 4 12x12 doors, 3 entry doors, 5" concrete floor, and trusses 2 foot on center (to finish the ceiling later). that was just to get the building up though. to finish it (electrical, insulation, etc) would be more.

i'd do it correctly and go with the steel building. yes you have to install it but thats what friends are for:D the pole barn like said would probaly be no dirt work and no slab.

You'll also do a better job than 90% of the "professionals" will, just because it's your own.
I'm sure somebody will get butthurt and argue that with me, but I have yet to be proven wrong on it.

You oughta be able to build a wood framed, steel clad pole barn with up to a 10' ceiling for about $10-$12 a square foot. That includes two 7x9 garage doors, one pedestrian door, wrapping all the exposed wood in metal (ie. trimout), gutters, and 4" concrete floor. In many cases, you can get the dirt work done and still be within that price point.

For the 19K you get a 40 x 60 pole barn 12' high with two (2)12 x 12 foot sliding doors.
I'm a utility contractor so I have some subcontractors that will do my concrete slab 4" with rebar mat. I'll do the dirt work, driveway and water myself. I'll need to find a Elec sub to run my power.

We close on the new house on Friday. I've gotten three quotes for my 40x40x12 Pole Barn $22,000 $26,000 and $30,000. Looks like I'm going with the $26,000 barn. It from Lester Buildings LLC. Has anybody heard of then?

Haven't heard of them... but looking at "service maps" they don't cover Texas!

Looking at the photo's. Morton Buildings do the same thing, neighbor has a large (80' x 100') hanger built by Morton. I was impressed as his hanger is bird proof.
Biggest item... ask your neighbors with a barn/buildings that look fairly new. Lots of "low price bidders" run just a web site, and sub contract everything from one of the manufactures.

Jeep shed is finnaly coming togeather. The stone pad is excated and about 70 tons of crusted gravel has been graded and compacted. The bulding materials are being delivered today with construction scheduled to begin next Tuesday. I ended up doing the pad myself and have the pole barn put up by contractor.
It will be 40' x 48' 12' high. 4" concrete floor (2) 12' x 20 rolling door (2) windows and a man door.

I am in the middle of my 40x40 shop build, 12' eves to local code 20# snow and 100 wind with stamps, foundation and 2 16x10 commercial rool up doors is running me about 15k total. 10k for the building, 3500 for concrete, 1200 for stamps and PE work for building and concrete, some rebar, forms and misc. Probably will be under 20k when the electrical is added, new lift and HVAC and security.

if you are going to put in a lift at all, make sure that 4" slab and reinforcing is up to the job. from what I have read here, 6"+ is prefered where the posts will be.
something to consider for the future if you ever planon adding a lift later even.

I just had a 30x30 pole barn built with 2-14x30 lean tos with 10 foot eves. It included one walk threw door and a 10 foot sliding door. I paid 12,000 installed
plus 3500 for the concrete and its well built.

Cool, nice size to. We had a contractor build a stick built 30x40x12 with 6" concrete floor a few years ago, metal siding, non-insulated and not wired for a hair over $20k. I wired it myself and will eventually insulate it.
If I did it again I'd have them do the insulation with the build, the type that sandwiches between the studs and the wall. since I waited I've got to do the roll in style now. For some reason I had it in my head thats what they would do if they insulated and I was afraid wiring would be a lot harder, oh well.

Are they Mennonites or Amish doing the building? Reason I ask is the steel wheels on the Cat Skid Loader. Around Kalona, Iowa there are Amish with tractors, and new skid steers, all on steel wheels.
Keep the pictures coming.

I would have to say they are Mennonites. The Amish do not use buttons.

I know why your happy with their work, my dad was raised in the Mennonite church,(we use rubber tires on most of our farm equipment, rubber tracks on the tractors
;)) and my grandparents still go there. There are no Mennonite churches in the area I was raised in. I've worked with many Mennonites on Disaster clean ups and rebuilds, Habitat for Humanity, etc....Lots of good, hard working people.

From what I've heard/understand, they do that with any Mechanical Farm equipment (i.e. tractors regardless of how old it is). Something about thats just what they are allowed to do (religion).

Certain Amish have tractors, and use gasoline engines, but don't have any rubber tires. Some Amish don't use tractors. Amish in our area have no problem riding in a vehicle, but can't own one. Some even run the neighbors farm equipment as an occupation. Some Mennonites use steel wheels on equipment. Mennonites in southern Iowa have cars and drive them down the road, and have rubber tires, but there is no chrome on the vehicles at all, and they are usually all black. No bright colors, just basic transportation. It all depends on the local 'rules' of the church or group.
My father was raised in a Mennonite church where the had no restrictions like that. Regular farm equipment, had 'fancy' vehicles and such.
As for the exact reasoning, I don't know why except for the local rules. I do not believe the steel wheels on that skid loader are for any improvement in operation. I imagine that thing rides horribly even for a skid loader

Yours is bigger than mine, I just had a local company (menonites as well) put up my 30x40 pole building. I did all the electric and concrete/grade and gravel work myself.
I figured the other day I have around 13000 in it not counting about 400 in gravel that sunk into the ground. I went with sliding doors and 1 walk in 12 foot eves.
Looks good. I built my 24x40 years ago and can say I was happy to pay for this one to be built. I wanted a few structural improvements over their design and they did them for a fee of course but in the end I am thrilled.

Any floor drains? Is this for cold storage, or will it be insulated and heated? ITs looking good. I've been building my basement, and basement floor, and other concrete work this year. Its been well over 100 yards this summer. I can respect what those guys are doing. Working between your feet all day long.

No floor drians. Not aloud by the county. It's higher in the midle to drain out the doors. It will be insulated just to keep the chill out and most drafts. We put in lovered fans on the end to keep it cooler.

most omish and menanites i have seen use horses but when i went up near pitsburg i saw this menanite driveing his tractor down the road with stael tires. you could tell were he stored it and ware his feild was by the way the road was all tore up. ive give them credit for liveing like that. a omish guy told me when they turn 16 or 17 that they get to leave home for a year and do the thing normal people (non omish) do and then they make a choice of how they want to live.

I can see the re bar sticking up with the orange X to locate them. Were they putting a pipe across the rebars to slide the "Magic Screed" on, or were they just aiming for the rods?
I put stakes at about 5 foot intervals with two screws on top, that held a 10' piece of pipe. We put them along the wall, and 14' wide, to pull the Magic Screed across, then moved the pipes to the next section. This is how we did my basement floor, and how I will probably do the garage floor, since the wall is higher then the floor will be.

I'm not sure on price, but that definitely does NOT sound like close to enough outlets.
I have 4 240v, 3 - 4 plug outlets, 2 4' strips over the workbench, and 6 dual plug outlets in a 20x24 shop. It works, but sometimes I wish I had more.
