: Is it really safe to tow with a Masterlock hitch pin?

The hitchpin masterlock sells just looks cheesy with that sleeve. Is it really beefy enough to tow with or is it more for storage?

I bought one and was not too happy about the sleeve. I've used it a few times and it looks fine. So far, so good. I will probably get something else soon.

I use one, and thought the same thing when I got it. No problems, though.

I have one and never really worry about it. The sleeve/pin is in shear.

Puts LOTS of miles on mine. Never really any issue except crap keeps getting in it and I have to clean it out once in a while or it's a bitch to turn with that little key.

I just cut one off a buddy's truck after it cold welded itself on. Being that it is in shear I don't worry about its ability to hold the load any more than any other 5/8 hitch pin. I've actually moved heavy trailers around the yard without the pin in and it didn't move anyway because of the wedging effect. I wouldn't do that on ANY road, but it does prove a point. My gripe was with the fact that it got gunked up so fast and rusted solid. You might as well just weld a regular hitch pin in. You'll get the same results either way, but welding is cheaper.

Maybe it's just a Minnesota thing...
