I am getting tired of 1 hour jobs taking 4 hours because I have no air tools...so I am looking for a compressor. Here area few I am looking at:

1:

2:http://sandiego.craigslist.org/tls/481976524.html

3:http://sandiego.craigslist.org/tls/475715265.html

Those are the used ones I am looking at. IF I decide to buy new where would you guys go? lowes, HF, home-depot? I want 110v, at least 10cfm, 12 gallon minimum and oiled. Any junk I should avoid?

12 gallons will be worthless. I assume you need this for personal use. I would go with at least a 30 gal. compressor. If you are talking about a small shop i would suggest 80 gal at least.

I have a 5 HP 60 gallon from Home Depot. Worth every penny of the $450 I paid for it. So many local guys have them and other than some leaking fittings, I know of no real complaints. Mine gets used daily and has held up fine.

Ok, yes this is for personal use, but it will get used alot. So I should look for 30 gallons minimum...gotcha, thanks for the tip. Thats why I posted on here first. Ill check out the home depot ones too. Any brands i should avoid? How about the Harbor Freight compressors? Something to consider?

Out of the two you posted, the 2nd link is much better. The first one is the same POS oiless one I have. I bought it not knowing anything about compressors and fully regret it now.

Neither of those will give you 10cfm but the second being an oiled cast pump will blow the first one away.

How does this one look? Seems like a pretty good deal.

Decent?

this one is for running nail guns. popular with roofers and framers. not so good for air tools, it will run all the time and be annoying as fuck.

Why not a 240v compressor? Do you rent, condo or what? Running power out to a garage is normly not that big of a deal, sooner or later you'll want it for a welder, plasma cutter, etc.

BTW buy the biggest compressor you can afford, it will pay off down the road.

I have this one:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100063473

99% of the time I use it for my plasma, and it works well

Why not a 240 volt compressor? The specs on mine match that $400 compressor you linked to from lowes. I've run air drills, impact wrenches, grinders, etc. and it does great. The only thing I wonder about is how it would do with a blasting cabinet but since I don't have one I don't worry about it.

The ideal situation is to have a big 60 or 80 gallon compressor for the shop and a 1 or 2 gallon portable compressor for nail guns. All those intermediate compressors are just money sucking pit stops on the way to the ideal situation. I recently sold my own money sucking pit stop so I'm not immune either.

Only reason for the 110v is that I live in an condo and i usually do all my work in my buddies small garage, which is only wired for a 110v. I also have a 110v welder as well.

This is if you want something that is portable. Like moving from one buddies garage to another. This model should run your basic impacts, and small grinders. But will struggle to run anything that is really air hungry. It will be way quieter than an oilless compressor.
