i put a 1/4" collet in it and it worked great with a tungsten-carbide deburring bit.
i also tried it with rol-lok sanding disks, but it spins so fast they just float without ever biting.
of course it is bulky and awkward, and can't fit into tight spaces, but it did the job.

maybe i could wire in some kind of variable voltage control??
maybe it would burn up the tool. any thoughts?

i dont think a variable speed drive would hurt it unless you overspeed the motor, i set up motors at work to run 150% of speed regularly but they are inverter duty motors that are designed to do this.

You don't need a inverter type drive as mentioned above to vary the speed of a brush motor. All you need is a triac type light dimmer (any light dimmer available at lowes or HD should comply, it is rare to find an actual rheostat dimmer any more), or if you feel like spending 2x as much, run to HF and get their router speed control, all it is is a triac type dimmer inline in an extension cord though.
Glad to see the ghetto die grinder worked for yah!

I got it on sale so the extra few bucks it cost over a dimmer, box, wiring, and time was well worth it. I use it with my 4.5" grinder and wire wheels, to lower the heat on my soldering iron, etc... Handy little things to have.

I had no idea they were on sale for so cheap. Makes wiring one up a waste of time as stated above.

I've been using one of these for about 2 years now.
