113:1 stock. i want to buy one also eventually. have you driven one? driving one is a completely different experience than i've ever had...i wouldn't trade my bronco for it, but they sure are a lot of fun.

And their are two additional gears below that can be purchased too.

Mine is a converted 6 speed tranny. Stock is 6 forward and two reverse. The conversion I have (2x4 shift plate; what ever that means) makes it an 8speed forward and 4 reverse. The Tcase is not seperate.. it is part of the transmision with all reduction upgrades done in the tranny. With the conversion mine ends up with a low low low... low low... low , and then 5 more gears. Unfortunately the top few gears ratios will not be to effective in the power band my setup has. (5cyl turbo diesel)

Note... I know all this via reasearch only. Sunday will be the first day I actually drive the Rig.

Is that the cascade thing or whatever?

no the cascade is a 20 speed tranny only on the 406/416.

no.... the added gear set and shift rod is; like I stated earlier, called something like a "2x4 Shifter Plate".

I found when trying to get more info about what this was , that lots of Mog guys didnt even know, so I guess its sorta rare. Sounds like it will mostly be benefit to "COOLNESS" for me. Like I realy dont need 4 rev. gears. The 2 extra low forward crawler gears may come in handy though.

The cascade box, the 20 speed tranny, is cool, and has some super low gears, but unfortunately they are not really for wheeling. The super low gears are for using impliments like snow blowers and rototillers, where the ground speed may need to be SUPER SLOW. The gears aren't strong enough to withstand the pounding of offroad.

Geo, I have never heard of the 2x4 plate you have. sounds interesting.

Yes but it is cool to rev the engine and watch the wheel turn like the second hand on a clock :)

Yes it is.......using 1st gear LOW, LOW, LOW yeilds you something like .07 MPH at idle.

a bunch of crawler guys need to take pics of them walking their rigs with leashes, given how slow they go. :D

The six speed tranmission on a 404 can be made into an 8 speed simply with a conversion to the shiftplate.

However.......your 1st gear low in the 8 speed is the same ratio as 1st gear in the 6 speed. Your 4th gear high (8th) is the same ratio as your 6th gear in the 6 speed.

Quite simply the shift plate modification gives you more middle range gearing options. Nothing higher, and nothing lower than stock 6 speed.

Some of the Mogs are measured in meters per hour at a set rpm as high as 2500 for a diesel. One such tranny combo netted 100meters per hour @2500 in third gear. That is some serious impliment work.Go away for the weekend and leave it idling in first gear come back and it's not even out of the driveway.I mis my 404.I could beat any car in a race off the line as long as the race was 6 inches.

ahhhh TY.... your the first one who has had a responce that made since about the shift plate that is on mine. Every site I asked about it the members had no clue or just guessed it added the crawler gears.

dont know if this plate will help me at all.. I got an OM617A.. (300 turbo diesel) so I dont know if it helps match that power band or not.

What do u think?

Can someone swap out the gear sets in this shift plate to make it include crawler gears instead of the mid range gears? hmmmm
