Not sure what to call it.

Basically looking for one of those vinyl/cloth hanging dividers in order to create a dirty/paint room in a shop.

Normally, I've seen them used in conference rooms.

Any idea where to find em? OR what I should be searching for to find them?

Thanks in advance.

I did this in an old space I rented and we used some old truck tarps that we cut up to fit.

I know exactly what you are talking about. When I was managing dealerships in Texas all of our conferance rooms had these (modular folding walls) so I called my buddy that still works at one of the dealership and he checked them out and the do not have a label or a stamp with a name... i have searched google for every name I could think they might be called and did not come up with anything... These fold and have a space in the wall they slide into for storage and opening up the 2 seperated areas...

you might go to an industrial office supply and ask them if they know what it is you are talking about...

Wish I could help cause I think I know just what you are looking for...

guidolyons, that is pretty cool... I'll have to do a little reading on it.

Dug, that is pretty tempting. The only thing that isn't overly appealing is those would not provide an easy "storage" solution. Especially when we are talking about 20-25 foot long span.

SPEEDCRAVIN, thanks for making a phone call. I'm having the same problem with google. Don't have a clue what they are called and "room divider" gets me a lot of stand up screens:shaking: I've seen both versions of the conference room version... one that compacts into the wall... and also one that just sits flat against the wall.

I'll have to see what an industrial office supply place will have to say.

They are just called folding room partitions. Any real office furniture dealer can get them. (ie. not Office Depot/Max/Staples etc)

These are not cheap. Try calling a used office furniture place. They might be able to get you some cheap ones from an older building. I am not sure how well it would work for painting. They typically don't seal very well and would allow a lot of dust to contaiminate the paint area.

AutoBody Toolmart had divider curtains in one of their catalogs. They have tracks they slide in and you can put together straights and curves for whatever space you have.

True... but they would make it "easier" to seal off compared to trying to just hang a piece of sheet plastic off the ceiling:laughing:

For painting, I would run a little 1 foot piece of plastic connecting the curtain to the ceiling then another from the curtain to the floor.

Not dead set on these as a solution but they sure seem cheaper/easier for temporarily dividing up a garage... rather than doing a permanent wall.
