We're trying put together three work weekends before our busy season in 2008.
These are the major events planned.
April Fools Day Toyota Crawl
A possible LARGE event in May (more details as soon as we know for sure)
Southern Shine Crawl (Memorial Day)
Fall Crawl
The Mud for Blood event

Not to mention any other club's events.

We need some volunteers to help repair and extend some existing trails.
1.We are wanting to extend Upper Rock Garden (double the length).
2.Middle Rock Garden (clean up several other lines).
3.Little Jagger area (mostly heavy equipment work).
4.More obsticles on exsisting trails.

This of course depends on weather, manpower, and available equipment. We would like to do one weekend in the months of January, February, and March.

Hey Shoope,

Me and my gang could be ready one weekend if we had some prep time and knew when we were going to have to go. I have some fabulous ideas for some additions to trails and tough bypasses etc etc. I sat and looked at a few things last time I was there. My friends and I thought about and planned out a few new Kicka$$ sections.

If we come up with a trail and clear it and make it can we name it??? This is very important. We have all our gear and stuff ready to go. Thanks for letting us lend a hand.

PS. I heard that Little Jagger has been cleared out except for some dangerous metal pipe or something. There is 2 or 3 COMPETITION lines there now that didnt exsist during the fall crawl. Is this true? if so has anyone tackled it or have any pics??

Machettes, chain saw, weedeater with blade attachment, gloves, and maybe a mattock or two.

We're going to focus on three areas, I will have around 8 guys from 4X4Grace and NC4X4 and will be working on the upper rock garden. Ronnie is going to lead a group on the middle rock garden. The rest will be worked out before then.

I think there are a few places that could really stand to have some attention and work put into them. By the way little jagger might be 1 of the craziest sections up there if we can remove the dangerous metal pipes and metal wires from within the rocks. There are huge boulders exsposed now to the left of the current trail. Anyone tackled them yet? Any pics? I think we need to focus on keeping ATV's from making 1,000's of trails everywhere too. It looks aweful and they are tearing up everything. From above you can really see the AVT's and there rampage. Well me and my gaggle are ready so just give us fair warning and time to get ready. Thanks. 3 to 14 possible in my gaggle.

I think there are a few places that could really stand to have some attention and work put into them. Mason jar for one is just too tight and too small. The trail up there limits the amount of traffic that it could see if we just removed a few small trees. not many just a few that are in the way. There are some other pleaces me and my gang have looked at. By the way little jagger might be 1 of the craziest sections up there if we can remove the dangerous metal pipes and metal wires from within the rocks. I may need to up the bet then.. lol

We have talked about the left line next to little jagger for awhile now. I would love to see some improvements there... We would need to talk about mason jar before we do anything there. Their is a few bonus places there though that has never been opened up.

If i lived closer i would ride over everyday after work and work on it. I will do my best to see to it that the gang can take off both weekend for both months. We will be ready. :) Lets get some serious plans together. from what it sounds like right now there is not a lot of work to do. I hear you say dozers and stuff but you would be amazed what a few pairs of bow saws and HD clippers a few rakes and a little elbow grease can do. Lets get some new trails and lines opened up. Sounds like a great idea. Whats the other date? The first one is January 12th 2008. The second is????These are saturday's right???

12-09-2007, 09:15 AM
I've tried the left line on lil jagger a couple times, no success. I've got a couple lines picked out, but if we go moving rocks they won't be there anymore (duh). I'll be down that weekend, probably have at least a couple folks in my group. I'll bring my chainsaw, some chains, and some handtools.

Oh yeah, my vote would be to leave mason jar alone. If you can't fit in there, don't go. Pretty simple in my book. It's nice to have some tight, sorta technical places left to wheel.

its not the actual wheeling spot it is the trail between the obsticles. Last time i was there everyone with full width anything were scrapping and debarking and getting held and hung up on trees. People will plow them over or get hurt by them is my worry. just removing a few will make getting throught the trail from abstacle to abstacle a little quicker and less dangerous. Just my thought.

Ok my group will take care of little jagger and clean that up. what else can we work on???

I dont see how it would get anyone hurt? Explain that to me..
That trail has been ran for about 4 years now and its wider now than it ever is. I would be that people that debark just dont want to back up and realign..
I have seen a rockwelled rig on 49's and 154" wheelbase go through there...
I wouldn't mind a few of the side obsticles opened up.. but to remove trees cause someone wants to go faster or straighter.... actually going faster on the trail could cause more people to get hurt than not..

this thread wasn't intended to make anyone made..
I just dont want mason jar looking like a big spider nest..

Exactly! If there's stuff to add another challenge to the trail let's do it, but no way should we go in there and make it easier. Shouldn't stuff like this be left up to people who actually run these trails anyway? Not some random people who just talk about wheeling?

I agree, leave mason jar as is. The reason it's one of the best trails in the park is because of the way it is, to cut trees just to fit easier isn't a good enough reason. If someone is worried about damaging their rig then Harlan just isn't the place for them. I've been through there a bunch and have never rubbed a tree.

when we first cut this trail we actually cut out the line that georges group will work. their is a few rocks that need moved and the trail needs trimmed back some. also the entrance can be moved back another 30-50 yards. all depends on how we move some rocks..

zukinut

No, please leave the canopener alone. I dont have to jump it, as im sure yall know. Its jus that when theres a big crowd gathered somebody has to show off. And for some reason, i always seem to be that guy.

Actually man, at thanksgiving, the first time thru, i was truely gonna crawl it, i put my tire on the rock and then i said what the hay and nailed it. Then chris said he didnt get a shot from the front. So i did it again so I could see what it looks like when i do that.

Maybe you could make an entrance to where i dont have to do the whole trail, that sidehill sucks in the zuk, LOL.

Harlan is by far the coolest place ive ever wheeled.

One last thing. Ill probably get flamed but oh well.

When doing canopener and mason jar, i would hope that they were left alone width wise. There not trails for fullsize rigs to do without body damage. I feel it should be left that way.

Theres a few posted on nc4x4. Im sure they will make their way here. We worked on upper rg and it now runs the full distance of the rock piles through there. Its probably twice as long now. Shoope worked on middle. He will have to chime in on that. Jagger received a little attention also.

Big thanks to all you guys that worked on the upper RG, without you we wouldn't have got a quarter of that done.

The upper RG is now twice as long with several new obstacles, a couple that are right up there with can opener. We also opened up alot more spectator and parking room.

Again, thanks for all the help.

I'm trying to get back down for the next work weekend, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be there or not. I really want to finish up what we got started on lil jagger. That was before the shit hit the fan. Anyways, I was at the end of the pack. Who went first???? Did ya get the steering fixed and ride anymore? I got cussed yesterday for going to Lower by Mel. Yep, fixed the steering, then spent the rest of the night running propane tanks, gas cans and orings to various spots on the mountain. Didn't get anymore wheelin' in and it's a damn weird feeling driving alone out there in the middle of the night in a jeep that you aren't quite sure is going to have steering in the next few minutes or not.
