how much do u think a resonable price to just bend the tube for my cage should be, i was gonna use pipe, but i don't think i want to, i know a guy here in town that builds cages for race cars, and i havn't called him yet, i just want to know what a good estimate would be, just to bend it, nothing else

IMHO this is the area you should NOT cut corners. This is a life we're talking about protecting. Spend whatever it takes to get the job done properly.

Good thing he was asking about pipe vs. tubing

Oh and sorry I dont have an answer for you...just to clarify, is it just one bend or two bends on one bar or??? If it is only a bend or two take it to a muffler shop...they will usually bend it for you for free/cheap:D

it'll be all the bends in a cage, but on my jeep, its only goin to be the front main bar, the ones under the door openin, and the hoops for harness attachment, other than that, all of it will be staight pieces

Figure about $60 per hour. Depending on what you want it may only be a days work for just the bending.

If you want it cheap look at the bending 101 figure out where each bend goes and make a good drawing. Then take it to the guy and show him what you want. If the job does not look confusing to him he will be able to whip it out in half an hour and probably charge you $50 or so and it will be easy money to him. If it looks like he will have to figure something out or might screw up and have to eat some tubing cost he is going to charge a whole lot more. When you put it together you can make up for any minor issues as you fishmouth the tube. Also just look into buying one of the smittybuilt kits. It will undoubtably be cheaper. Add some straight tubes of your oun if you want more.

To answer your question when a guy brings me a drawing for a cage I charge $20.00 per bend but that includes double checking your work!

If you're in Aggie Land, you're not far from Round Rock TX. Jason Keene is a local wheeler, has a shop, and has done some pretty nice work on quite a few rigs. Worth checking with him on it.

http://www.jkcustoms.com/ is the contact info.

I think that a great price considering how long it take to bend stuff and get it right.

As for me bending is a little like going to Vegas. I still loose more steel then I keep

For our shop it depends if you have some type of "blue print".
If you had a lay out, I would charge you $60 per hour plus materials. As for the door bars and the seat belt bar, those things would be kind of a second trip once the main hoop is in. But to answer you question we would do some door bars for around $100 installed and a seat belt bar/cross support for around $70 installed.

best way for sillyneck to see this is just PM him with your question, then again shipping that stuff from CA to TX might suck
