: Best way to groove a bogger??????
mudbilly 11-22-2007, 10:14 AM I'm a newbee to this site, glad I heard about it from a friend .IT ROCKS-and I know you guys should be able to help. I want to groove a set of 39.5's boggers (remove the smaller lugs) and spent alot on them ,so I dont want to screw them up. Whats the best way,Buy a groover,If so where and how much??sawzaw??what blades?? HELP-answers would be helpful.
Valley Auto 11-23-2007, 04:02 PM Best way Ive found is to take an old sawzall blade preferably a long one gring the teeth off it and sharpen it like a knife, as soon as it heats up it cuts like butter
mudbilly 11-24-2007, 08:56 AM I,ve been told to buy a groover, but that did,nt seem so good as I'm only ganna do these 4 and then that tool would sit there. And an old man suggested a 12volt or maybe 6volt battery and piano wire to pull the heated wire through the tread, but I,m not sure if that would work ,or if I,d just end up smelling burning rubber and burn myself-(cant have burning rubber without beer..this mudbilly says!!) Any body else got a sure fire way for cutting boggers??????????????????????
mudbilly 11-24-2007, 04:23 PM I dont want to make an all day project out of it??but I am groovin soon nedd othe suggestions????????????
muddyredneck 11-24-2007, 04:41 PM ive used a chainsaw on tsl with good results
Bruce T 11-24-2007, 09:34 PM sawsall with a long blade. I've done it with teeth and without. It works way better than a groover (unless you get the $400 and up ones) it will shake the shit out of your forearms though.
mudbilly 11-25-2007, 10:06 AM Although the chainsaw would be fun. I,m not sure if I'm gana hold one up to my new boggers , just yet!!! Hey would 4-wheel parts consider that a road hazzard warranty or what??

Ha, just tell them you were behind a semi that dumped a load of chainsaws, :D
mudbilly 11-26-2007, 09:37 AM Thats funny right there!!!!
MattyB4x4 11-27-2007, 08:05 AM if I recall correctly, modifying the tread at all voids 4wpw warranty
Pallister 11-27-2007, 02:04 PM I've herd of people using an Grinder and going at it.. But you'd have to be real careful... The Sawall Blade is the way to go!
mudbilly 11-27-2007, 03:58 PM I thought there might be a " TIRE GURU " on this site who does it all the time.Pretty soon I'll be sharpening my sawzaw blades it looks like thats the best way.Hope I dont end up looking like popie the sailor when I'm done.
mudbilly 11-28-2007, 06:04 PM Are there any other tire guru's out there that can help before I dedicate to the sawzaw???/
turboyota 11-28-2007, 06:47 PM I did a set of 44 boggers in 2 hours with 1 person on a sawzall with wood blade and one person with channel locks prying back on the lug. Work awesome!

mudbilly 11-29-2007, 08:53 AM I use the sawzaw.yeah alittle help goes along way...
The "tire guru" who does it "all the time" is Jimmy Dean up in New York. He cuts all the tires for the mud racers. He's expensive & there's a wait. But, when he's done, they'll be an inch & a half deep & 50lbs lighter
slowagon 11-29-2007, 09:37 PM I helped a guy groove some thornturds with a shaved down hacksaw blade, three small blocks of wood and an old arc welding machine. His setup was pretty slick. He ground down the hacksaw blade so it was about a 1/4" wide for about 2", bent it into a "U" shape, wrapped the open end over one of the blocks of wood so that about an inch of untrimmed hacksaw blade extended past the block of wood. The others two pieces of wood were liberally electrical taped so that together the three blocks of wood made a handle to hold onto. He used some old welding leads and attached them to the open end of the hacksaw blade. Plug in the welder adjust the heat setting till you see the blade start to glow only were narrowed and trim away! It really worked like a charm, each thornturd took about 20min to do. He said he learned it from his dirt circle track days. Man I wish I got pictures of that thing.

Crap. That was a tough read.
mudbilly 12-01-2007, 11:19 PM Thanks blinddriver and tex those are good ideas. If the sawzaw shakes me to bad. Try and weld-melt them, and if that dont work, wait for jimmy dean to do it? These are all great ideas. I'd like to thank each and every guy that posted-I think I got the info I was looking for.Unless there are any retired dirt track racers-tire gurus that want to put there 2 cents in. be my guest . Expereance is the hardest teacher. You get the test first, and the lesson afterwards !!
