My brother and I are going to Phoenix the week of November 10th thru the 18th for some wheelin'. I'm looking for links to trail info, or connections to people who could give us some directions to trails. I saw in one of the mags that Steve Nantz from Moab Off Road has apparently moved to Phoenix. I've run with him before so if anyone knows how to get a hold of him I'd appreciate the info. Thanks.

Steve---I know you're not familiar with the Phoenix area but Steve Nance works over at at 4-Wheel Supply on Washington street in central Phoenix. If you were to pull into the cluttered up parking lot you would see the store on the rightish...the big garage door shop straight ahead and Steve is in the building on the left where he does special mods for customers.
Stop in at MAP WORLD on Southern/Alma school area(North side of road) and get a topo of Mineral Mountain to explore the Florence rock trails like Upper Woodpecker and Highway to Hell.

Steve,

check in the Toy board, always somebody goin' out wheelin' off Table Mesa Rd. It's home to the upper and lower Terminator trails, and upper and lower Raw Deal.

there is a group of full size types heading to Raw Deal on the 10th, we'll be heading down from Prescott w/ a FS Bronco, a Jeep CJ7 and a Toy, and will be meeting several Phx. guy's also. The info is posted on the AZVJC site above under "trips".

I think our little Toyota gang is running at Table Mesa that weekend. Don't know how tough of trails you are looking for. We will probably be running Annihilator. It's bitchin'. Keep an eye on the Toyata board for more info. I don't work on Fridays either, so maybe I could show you guys around that day also.

Jack, I assume since you said you wanted to spectate a bit on the fullsize run, you want to run another trail/Annihilator on Sunday? If so, I'm in to stay until sunday, only thing holding me back right now is I have no skidplates... but I'll try anything. I just want to keep my t-cases in the truck. But if you want to run Sunday, I'm in. If you get a few people to get up there to screw around on Friday, I'll go in on that one too. Since I'm unemployed at the moment, & I was planning on going up Friday night & camping anyway... I suppose I could do Thurs night/Fri morn. My other 1/2 will be out of town next week, so I'm pretty much ready to go. Let me know what you got in mind.

We are going out this Sunday. The weekend of the 10th-11th, I don't know what's going on yet.
As far as spectating on the fullsize run
I would not recomend a fullsize on Annihilator, but that's just me. It's alittle tight.

Thanks for the info everybody. We won't get there till Sunday evening the 10th and most of our wheelin' is going to have to be during the week. We have another brother that lives in Chandler so he is gathering info and will help us get around also. We don't know yet if we are going to be wheelin' on the weekend of the 17th-18th or at the Goodguys rod run in Scottsdale. Kind of depends on how much of our junk is torn up. We're bringing my CJ-7 and my brother's flatty, both with 350 Chevy's, 44's, 9", 36"s etc. We want to run 4+ rated stuff at least. Again, thanks everybody.

Jack, you know even something as lame as Raw Deal is going to be interesting with 117" wheelbase fullsize & 33" tires... maybe lame wheeling to you, but the carnage should be interesting... plus I plan on encouraging people with the most fucked up lines I can imagine.

I havn't seen Annihilator yet, but I've said I'm going to run Armegeddon, or try to anyway. That is one nasty trail, & I'm sure will be the end of my sheetmetal... but I'm at the point of the hell with it... I'll try almost anything, all I need are my skid plates & winch done & I'm there.

If I'm not working by then, I could be interested in a weekday run... my trail knowledge is limited, I can get you to Raw Deal up north of Phoenix, & I know how to get on Upper & Lower Woodpecker out in Florence Junction.
Raw Deal would be cake for a locked J**p, lower woodpecker has some interesting spots, but it's not too tough (although rated 4.5+) & Upper I havn't been on in years, but last I remember it was an enjoyable trail. Dunno who else we could get in for weekday runs, but I'm a possibility...

Just PM me if interested in wheeling Friday the 16th. I could show you around Florence Junction or Table Mesa. I know most every tough rock trail there.
Fullsize Rulz I would be most interested in running Armagedon. I don't think my Toy could give Titanic a pull if it needed it though.

yea, I need the winch for sure... I still really don't know if I can do that one, but it'll be fun trying. I just hope my truck don't become part of the trail. The good part is the obstacle that has me the most worried is the first one, once past that, I should be able to drag it over everything else if I have to.

When we went through, the first obstacle took like 3 hours for 5ish trucks ( 1 birf and 1 driveshaft). We all basically laid the truck on their sides and slide them through. After that, it's diff grabber central. Man, I gotta run it again.

It was a bitch to walk, should be a fun run. You think you have enuff patience to fight something as big as mine through there? If so, I really like you

Patience? Hell dude, you just gotta do some more body mods on those rocks and you'll fit right on through On a serious note, should be less than a year and I'll be back
