i've heard something about a d1 t-case or maybe just the cdl linkage itself is an upgrade on a d2. i'm not really sure exactly why that is, could someone please infor me? i understand the concept what the cdl is, just not sure why people w/ d2's look for them

look on discoweb.org. Lots of writeups on it. It's really worth doing. I bought the linkage to do it myself but turned out it was not complete. Will be making my own setup now.

the cdl from a d1 is an upgrade for a d2, but isn't the linkage from a d2 an upgrade for a d1?

so do you need the t-case out of a d1 or just the linkage??

It depends upon what year DII you have. Up to about mid-2000, the T-case had the CDL, but no shifter to engage it (only high/low range shifter). MY 2004 DIIs had the CDL and the shifter to use it.

The DII shifter is much more elegant than that for the DI and is much easier to install and adjust as it is cable operated, rather than a bunch of mickey mouse stamped steel pieces that break at the most inopportune moment.

2002 tansfer case does not have the CDL option.... IE you would need a new transfer case to get CDL.. I think that is the only unfortune year to have it removed....

Nope. Unfortunately, the 2003 was plagued as well...

You also want a D2 transfer case not a D1 case as they're not the same and you can't just drop in the wrong one. Found that out the hard way when the wrecker I got mine from shipped the wrong one, didn't realize until everything was apart and off and suddenly all the sensors didn't have places to plug into on the new case.
