: Hey Sam, I've got some picts...
Greg Davis 06-25-2002, 07:45 AM I just wanted to let you know that I did a little playing around yesterday to see how effective my drilled bushings are. Initial results look very promising. Following are the distances between spring perches:
Front: Compressed=7" Extended=15.75"
Rear: Compressed=9.5" Extended=17"
Now, what's encouraging is there was still room for more compression on both ends. Up front there was approximately 4" between the axle and bump stop. In the rear there was approximately 4"-5" between the axle and bump stop. I just didn't have any way of getting full compression where I was.
Anyway, I have four pictures if you would like to see them. Overall, not too bad for a DSII.
road1will 06-25-2002, 07:47 AM email them to me, i will post them.

Greg Davis 06-25-2002, 08:15 AM Thanks Adam. They're on the way.
road1will 06-25-2002, 09:02 AM here you go greg. 1st of 4.
road1will 06-25-2002, 09:04 AM 2- i like how you routed the exhaust through the fender, nice touch!

Greg Davis 06-25-2002, 10:40 AM Thanks Adam. Much appreciated.
I owe you.
JSBriggs 06-25-2002, 11:07 AM i like how you routed the exhaust through the fender, nice touch!
I like how you routed the 8274 through the grill, now that is a nice touch!

RoverWrench 06-25-2002, 11:47 AM Looking good Greg...Did you measure shocks travels to see where you are there?
Greg Davis 06-25-2002, 12:17 PM I didn't but I know that the fronts are the only ones that may bottom out. There's about 1/2" difference between clearance between stops and axles and compression on front shocks, so I may have to fab some taller mounts.
On the rear, I have custom upper and lower mounts that put my rear shocks forward at about a 40 degree angle, giving me tons of shock travel. The rear springs (retained) will top out before my shocks reach full extension.
I'm going to put it on a ramp soon to see if I can get the front to fully compress and I'll go from there.
Thanks for all the compliments. I routed the exhaust out the quarter so I could tuck it up out of the way. Same reason for the winch. I just want everything tucked away as neatly as possible.
Strange Rover 06-25-2002, 02:57 PM Awsome disco Greg. Great looking machine. Love the way you have done your body mods.
I gather you drilled holes in the front and rear radius arms???
So are you getting more travel than what you had before?? And I guess you need a ramp to see what limits the travel now.
What about body roll on road? And I think you said on road braking and acceleration felt unchanged.
Good stuff Greg. Find yourself a ramp.
:smokin:
Sam
PS Ive have now got rid of my hinged arm and put in some stock arms with the drilled bushes and although Ive got a bit less ultimate travel (I would guess from 13in back to 10.5in)my rig goes so much better. All the extra body roll and stuff caused by the hinged arm have gone and Im not going to go back.
Strange Rover 06-25-2002, 03:12 PM Great balanced flex front to rear BTW. Looks realky good. Esp for a Disco II :flipoff2:

road1will 06-25-2002, 03:58 PM hey sam, isnt it like 5am in aus right now, are you a very early riser or what??? :D

Greg Davis 06-26-2002, 06:48 AM Sam, yes I drilled front and rear. I know for a fact that the rear will stuff completely. Saw that last week when my digital camera batteries were dead! Anyway, the ramp will show what needs attention next. I am guessing it will be the front shock towers. The front shocks are going to be very close to topping out at full stuff. I'll have camera in hand (with fresh batteries;) ). Thanks again for all the tips.
