I'm still trying to work out these hubs. I swapped for the smaller races that I had in my pile but I'm still not able to get the hubs on all the way.

I'm starting to think that maybe it has to do with the out bearings or race so
I was looking at the bible, and I'm curious about the part numbers, especially since chrylser shows two numbers and so does GM for both parts. Is this because these are two different sizes or just happens to be that way?

Any idea why Im having hell with this? I figured all 91+ axles had the same bearings and races..

Did you put the outer bearing in backwards? I did that once :shaking::emb2:

So you are working on a 14 bolt which is a GM product and going to chrysler for parts? What's up with that?

what numbers do you have?

Yeah, I thought i did. I have yet to tear them apart but I believe they are.

The numbes are GM, I just noticed Chrysler had the same numbers for the same part.

But the GM numbers i have are

2852729 Outer cones
7451814

7451813 Outer cups.
9428539

Inner Bearings-387AS; Race-382A
The outers are LM-104949 and LM-104911

So all is correct according to what is most commonly used.. Now I have nothing to go on..

FYI the hubs have GM 397 7397. Google ddnt help.

Are these the original hubs that came on that axle? If the hubs came off of a newer box van 70" 14 bolt, they are different than standard SRW hubs. The wheel mounting flanges are in a different spot and the bearing spacing is different as well. Needless to say, those particular hubs won't fit on a standard 14 bolt spindle.

I guess i could take the hubs from my buddies chevy and see if they fit..
The axle is a SRW: 67.5" WMS

So I was thinking about the hub thing today, and decided to go out to the junk yard; I did. I grabbed a set from a 90ish (two tone-brown and white stripe) 3500 SWR single cab pick up. Just to clarify that I was not using Van hubs. I also had a thought about maybe using the wrong bearings or maybe not being seated correctly. So, these hubs came complete right off the truck. Bearings and all.

Came home.. They don't fit either..

I would have thought 14 bolt hubs would have been one of the easiest part of an axle swap..

Sounds to me like you have one of the odd-ball van type axles with the different bearing spacing. If that's the case, you only have one choice of hub to use.

Well, the spindles are shorter on my shaved axle than on other 14 bolts..
I did get a new 14 bolt housing for free, though.

The only problem is that it's an older housing. My problem with this is, will I be able to just swapped everything from my newer 91+ axle into this one? I know the bearing that's inside the Diff that supports the pinion is different so I will have to figure the part number on that, but can I just use the pinion housing and bolt it up to the older axle housing instead of setting up the pinion again?

The Hubs fit, both sets, so now I'm set on that. Just have to cut everything off on both housings and reweld.

Again... that depends. There are two different styles of pinion supports. The oiling passages are a little different between the two, so you need to use the correct pinion support for the axle you're building.

Without pics of what you have, it's damn near impossible to play this guessing game. Some pics of your hubs/spindles could have cleared this issue up many posts ago. Same goes for your pinion support issue now.
