can u run an offset rear end with a center yoke trans case? like in a 71 cj5, if u were going to go to a np205?

I wouldn't. The WB on a CJ5 is so short, and the NP205 is a damn long case.

I could be wrong, but there are so many axles with centered yokes...or, more centered, anyways.

I wouldnt go that far offset. BUt I have a centered Atlas output and an offset Dodge D60, about 3 inches or so....and it works. I believe it just depends on HOW FAR its offset ;)

It might be ok for offroad only, if you have no suspension flex. Remember that you drive shaft moves a whole lot more when it is off set from center. The compound angles would kill it. Likewise, on road, the side angle would cause some vibration problems. You could not set it up for a CV, as you can't angle the pinion at the t-case.

If you are truly set on this course, try to find a postal jeep rear end. They are a centered D44 with the same track width and spring width. We did this on my brothers Cj6 when he installed a 205. The 205 barely fit between the frame rails and hung down real low with no body lift or floor board mods.

find the side and vertical angles, do some Pythagorean backflips, and see if the final angle is within operating tolerances for your driveshaft u-joint size.

A 205 is way to long unless your relocating the motor to its furthest point forward..

I have a friend that has an 350/Atlas/T18 combo and his drive shaft is 10 inches.

I dont know how much longer the 205 is but I know its a long SOB

If it were in a truck no problem but not in a CJ.

It's doable. I ran my flatty like that for years, just opposite: 18 tcase, centered rearend. I had to experiment with the driveline angles for a few months before I got it to work, but eventually I got it to have NO vibes, and it never had any bindage. Play with tcase location in 1/4" increments, while mixing in pinion angle in 1* increments and you'll get it.

Hypothetically, blah, blah, blah:barf:

I guess it all depends on the CJ,

I know my cruiser is offset with a centered t-case.

Don't forget, the NP205 is like 5" longer than a D18...

I ran a Waggy offset 44 with a 205 for two years, never had a real problem, worked in Tellico. I had more problems blowing the short shaft than u-joints. I would use a good quality u-joint and change it when it started to vib (about every 8 months) I did use a cv shaft and one ton slip yoke with a conversion joint
