I know it's AZ, and it's hotter than hell, but the tread on the swamper seems to be melting. Like it's the wicked witch from the wizard of OZ or something! Has this ever happened to anyone? The tires are run with 30psi. They are 32x9.50's. (not mine)

Yeah, I've told him. He actually has a Sentra, and (dare i say it?) an Xterra. But the Xterra only sees street duty.

He doesn't have a tow rig, so he drives it to the trails. Does anyone have an actual "method" to prevent this from happening?

:flipoff2:

thats the best idea i can think of.. unless you can levitate the thing... have you called swamper to see what their max temp is? They are prolly going to look at you like :rasta:. WTF. if you know any mechanics with a digital thermometer have them scope the pavement before you call. so you know what kind of temps you are lookin at.

or you could just..........

MOVE

Well, is this during driving or just sitting??? I'd say park in the shade :-P Or rig up a few extra windshield washer tanks on switches to spray water into each wheel well lol, just refill every so often lol...

It's after driving that it's noticed, so I'm assuming during driving the tires heat up, and while it sits, the rubber melts.

burnout king, fill them with diesel and rip it up :nuke: :rasta: :D

also, during driving, if you drive at night and in the mornings, you supposedly get less tread wear cause the rubber diesnt heat up as much, but DAMN ive never heard of it melting

I have heard that siping keeps the tire cooler while driving. A lot of tire places will do it for about $10-15 a tire.

Must have been in the shade to only reach 178 F....have seen it in the 190's but don't recall my TSL's melting ever...park it on concrete its slightly cooler....or groove them for less contact...otherwise you can put some shade to it while its parked like the RVer's.....

Ummmmmmm.......kinda hard to admit this but I did this with my 75 Nova I had when I was 18. Only thing is it's bleach not diesel!
A windshield washer tank and pump in the trunk with a hose and nozzel mounted in each rear wheel well.:rasta:

Hmmm, toasty today. :D :smokin: (literally ;) ) (edit: I mean from the heat, realized that looked a little funny after I posted!

My tires definitely don't last as long out here but, they don't melt that I've noticed. However, my TSLs will leave distinct tracks on my concrete drive when I move it though. Not just turning, but simply rolling along easy. You can see every tread block distinctly. Seems like the sun makes the outer layer sort of chalky or something. I'm going to start covering it during the day. I already made a cover for the gas tank (which has a temp home *on top* of my new bed) and battery out of sun using industrial carpet turned inside out (or upside down, or whatever, you get it...).

My Jeep sits in the garage, out of the sun, and every time I move it I see the same tread patterns on the driveway that you do. Can see perfect swamper prints on the concrete, heat is not a factor. I do keep my tires around 6 psi, though, so that could be causing it...

I know this is a hastle...But carry 4 small planks of wood, or plastic grids that are the same contact area as your tires, get out just before you park, jam them in front of each tire, drive up on them, and vwala, problem solved :) You are no longer sitting on a hot surface.

Ya but then the wood will catch fire and melt em anyway:flipoff2:

back before i knew any better i had a set of mickey thompsons that would litteraly melt when i drove them around. From one week to the next you could tell a difference in tread depth. I only kept them about 3 months cuz i found some idiot to buy them but i can feel you pain.

I do agree with prior suggestions though.
1. move
2. buy real tires
