I've used a stick welder mostly and don't have much experience with migs, I picked up an older Lincoln SP-100 with gas a few years ago and I'm wondering if this machine will work. I want to cut off the rear 2 feet of my airboat and reattach the bow. Will the SP-100/w gas weld this approx 1/8 aluminum?

Aluminum is so soft, you really should run it out of a spool gun.

Buddy of mine also has an SP-100, and was going to run aluminum through it after he got his MM210. He was going to cut his gun hose/liner down to about 3' and use it right next to the welder. Local Welding Shop said it probably wouldn't work as the rollers would still have a hard time pushing it through the (small) curves in the cable.

i have run aluminum in my SP125, it worked. Just keep your lead straight, as in every time you get ready to lay bead, look at the lead back to the machine and make sure it has no loops or hard bends.

You also should run alummix gas which is argon/helium. Should work though I have a buddy that has done it also, bu tkeep the lead straight.
