Anyone know of any places where I can buy collections of used tools? I need to expand my collection majorly. Bench, hammers, ratchets, etc. I checked craigslist but didnt see much so I figured I'd try to find some shops / warehouses that sell lots of used toolery.

I would check Harbor Freight. They are not used but they are very reasonable on prices.

i've found some good deals on used stuff from the pick and pull in san jose. there is a lady who runs a stand in front of it. got two pinion nut sockets for like 10 bucks. some of it's crap, but sometimes there's decent stuff.

The army surplus place here in chico has tons of used tools. Maybe there is someplace similar near you.

I would keep checking craigslist. There is a guy who runs an ad in the Chico and Sac sections that always has tons of stuff. He is in Oroville I think.

You can check Denio's or the flea market on Folsom Blvd. Sometimes you can find some good stuff there. I've seen some Craftsman tools there (exchange at Ace or Sears for new tools)-- some are even new. I picked up a brand new 11-piece 1/4" socket set for $10.

You had better start or you are never going to be able to wheel again. :flipoff2:

keep checking Craigslist. check not only the tools section but also the garage sale section - I have seen estate sales on there with toolboxes Full of the majority of tools that you will need for less than the price of the tool box. You also see people that are getting out of automotive or whatever in the tools section that are selling the name brand tool boxes FULL of tools for less than the name brand tool boxes. I would just keep checking and find something like that and be done with it - it may take a couple weeks to find a great deal but worth the wait instead of building a collection from the ground up (which will include many trips to Harbor Freight/Sears/etc. to go and get that tool that you haven't found yet and need now). As far as the benches - Just make them.

Oh and you are a tool :flipoff2:

I've got a ton of HF stuff. Most of it is great for the price, but some of it has been junk.

There is a great thread in the Shop/Tools section where people list what the "good" tools are there and what to avoid.
