I am currently builing a long arm suspension for my TJ and have just completed the lower control arms. A few months back I bought 2 1/2" johnny joints with 1" thread. After reading some of threads I am not sure if I should have bought the 1 1/4 threaded version. Has anyone broken the 1" joint?

What will your Jeep be running? I, personally, am using the 1 1/4s, but I wouldnt feel any more nervous running the 1"ers. Again, Im only on 37s, but unless I'm running 44s on rockwells, and Im not even sure then, I wouldn't second guess the threads strength

D60 axles with 40" or 42" tyres. I have built the arms so that only 1/4" of thread is showing, the tubing is 2" x 1/4" wall DOM. As I live in the UK, a lot of offroading is mainly mud.

I hate the Mud. That being said, a bolts strength is maxed out a width and a half worth of thread, so you could (if you had to, and for others reading) back out the bolt. I forget how wide the bolt is on my Johnny Joint, but once its threaded into the tubing 1.5 times the width of the bolt.

THAT being said, The Johnny Joint Bolt is still a beast at 1" and will hold up jus fne to pushing and pulling load. Hell, the bolt holding it is only 9/16ths and is under a sheer load. I'm still not sure on all the numbers and % of weakness and tensile strengths and formulas, but It should do just fine

Thankyou for the info. If one of the joints breaks while wheeling then I should have used the 1 1/4". Maybe I should keep a couple of spare just in case.
