: Hard to start after sitting

I have the big weber on my 258. It's been on there for a few years and works fine except if it has sat for a few days(3 or more). It won't start unless I dump a little gas down in it. Then it runs like a top. If it sits less than three days starts right up no matter what the temperature is. It's been like this since new. Parking at different angles has no effect.

The parts that have been changed in the years that this has been going on include the tank, the lines to the tank, the fuel filter, and the fuel pump. I also has a relatively new mr gasket pressure regulator. Not to mention many unrelated parts.

It's like the gas evaporates out of it and no amount of cranking or pumping the pedal does anything. I have heard of others having this trouble but I couldn't find anything searching . I thought I read a solution to this but I wasn't able to find it.

Anyone?
More triangulation, muffler bearings, flux capacitor. Someone has got to have a clue.

I would say the gas may drain back into the return line if you have one. Evaproation is also possible.

My dad's J4000 truck does the same thing running a AMC360/Edlebrock Performer carb. Startin that thing is a Job in itself. But after that, the thing starts right up as long as you start it once every 3-4 days.

Its a Jeep.

The method you describe on starting your jeep is the exact same method my dad does to start his.

I hate to drag a post back from the dead, but I searched in the best Pirate way.

Same issue, same carb. Runs beautiful if I drive it every few days. If it sits for a week, you have to do the flammable down the carb trick....

I do have a return line, but is that really it?

My accelerator pump is also working.

Just go with an external electric pump wired to the run position to an inline FPR. Thats what my dad needs to do to his.

OK. I have that already installed. I will run it for awhile before I start it next time and see how it goes.

I have also heard that a spacer will help made out of plastic etc.

Thanks, ROB
