: went to the yard' today
snoop dogg 06-25-2002, 01:32 PM I went to the local pull a part today
heres what i got:
1. CV driveshaft- $7.46
2. Master cylinder-$6.08
3. Inner/Outer front axle shafts-$6.62
4. Diff cover (pretty thick)-$2.00
Total-$22.16
and then some tax and environmental charges...not to bad for today.
tsm1mt 06-25-2002, 01:46 PM Dang!
And here I thought I was doing good with my $75 for the first one, $50 for #2, $40 for #3 Dana 20 deal. :D
snoop dogg 06-25-2002, 02:06 PM This place is really really really dirt cheap. I am going back in a week (vacation) and yanking the dana 20 and manual....guess how much??? $60 bucks for that. I can get the 345 for $100 bucks also. Front 60 or 44 $60 bucks. They price it on the most commonly bought part. So a door is more than a tranny. And the majority of the yard is cars...get your occasional scout, but when i see it i strip it completely. Nothing costs over $100 bucks in there. So a front 60 will cost as much as a dana 30...crazy isn't that and a 35 spline is as much as a 30 spline...only $60 bucks for an axle. Yes i know its great to be in the south!!!!
Ben W 06-25-2002, 02:13 PM Tom-
I could use one of those D20's if you wanted to bring me one on your way to roundup. :)
See if they have any Jeep Wagoneer/Cherokee/Pickup T18/D20 combos too. :D

That would have the shift-rail extensions on 'em? Saw one. Can't remember if it was a stick or auto.. seemed like a shiny aluminum bellhousing, but IIRC it had a shifter stuck on it.
I'll look tomorrow if you'd like. I KNOW it had the shifter extensions.
But.. I dunno.. I might not want to lose much from this stockpile.. might need more still. :D
If you need any Dana 20 *parts* I can fix you up with those.. or if you know someone that's good at welding cast iron together...
I also saw a long-input T18 sitting nearby - didn't know if it's a Jeep or Scout or what.. heck, even if it's a long-input or not (no bell and I wasn't measuring for input shafts - I was on a Dana 20 hunt).
What's all of that worth?
Suddenly my 8' box doesn't seem so big.. between my usual "stuff" to haul I'm also hauling a set of 4 31x15.50 Terras to RMIHR, some axle tubes to Rustoleum White, and now maybe a T18 and a D20...
What can you get 2"x.120 DOM for, Ben? Fawk it! Maybe I can pick up some tubing while I'm in the area, too..

Ben W 06-25-2002, 02:46 PM I'd give $150-$200 for a jeep T18 w/ D20 adapter, if it has the 6.3:1 first gear. I'd take the 4:1 version also, $100-$150. Either one as long as the D20 adapter is there. I don't need the bellhousing, or any of the clutch parts, just the tranny & adapter.
I'd take a broken D20, I'm mostly interested in spare output shafts. Got any w/ fine spline rear outputs?
The price for steel here sucks, but I have a 727 w/ D20 adapter I could use for bargaining material. :D
Are you passing through Yakima this year?
Ben W 06-25-2002, 02:56 PM Just called on tubing, 2"x.120 HREW is $25 / stick, so $1.25 per foot. That is from Pacific Steel in Pasco. They don't stock DOM, and don't have a price on file  You'd probably be better off buying tubing on the wet side of the state somewhere.

I'll try to swing by sometime this week and look closer - and take Michelle's digital camera w/ me. :)

A few. And a few fine-spline ones, too.
What was the change-over year? Did it coincide with moving the fill plug to the rear? That'd make it really easy to tell.. otherwise I can always look at the outputs..
The one I just bought has the coarse spline rear output..

:D I have at least one more extra lying around, and one more coming.. hoping I won't need any more, but... :D
Are you passing through Yakima this year?
Not at the moment. Current (tentative) plan is to go through The Dalles (visit/impose upon relatives for the night) and meet up with the Oregon Scout club at Portland and have a convoy of Binders 20+ strong up to Snohomish.
Not set in stone, and it's 70 miles out of my way, but I thought it'd be fun, and a change of scenery (The Dalles) from the last two years (Yakima/Ellensburg)
This all assumes, of course, that the whole setup stays together for the trip. :) The 345 is still ticking at sustained higher-RPM (2800 ish) with a fresh 7qt oil change of 20w50 Castrol.. might be time to try a little lifter-cleaning miracle-cure..
Then again, I only need it to run through the end of September.. picking up my cam, headers, clutch, valve springs for the new 392 at RMIHR. :)

1020 or 1010? I'd settle for 1020 HREW at that price. :D Not bad for 1010, either..
Fleck was supposed to be finding out the bulk price on tubing for me, too.. since BinderNut couldn't haul any up from Sacramento...
Ben W 06-25-2002, 03:14 PM The cheap stuff, 1010

Ben, do you need a whole one, or a few parts? I have that's missing a few parts, I'll send it up if you want it. It's an older D20, the sticks, and the front output plate.

Sure, I'll take whole or parts cases. So its just the case, front bearing retainer, and sticks? How about gears, output shafts, bullgear, or intermediate shaft? Can you give me a shipping estimate to 98948, or are you coming up for roundup? :)

What are you going to do with these extra pieces, Ben? :D
I have two, no, now three broken units sitting in front of the garage.. and there should be 2-3 more stashed somewhere else 'round here..
Got the broken Dana 20 out tonight.. piece of cake this time.. sadly, I'm getting good at this.
Prepped another adapter to go in (swapped bearings).. one more good adapter still sitting here unclaimed as a spare..

A FRONT 60 FOR 60 BUCKS??????
Wanna make a couple hundred bucks real quick? Send me two Chebbys tommorow!
snoop dogg 06-26-2002, 04:41 PM *IF* they have some....maybe we could work a deal, im not really in it to make money, but i would want money for the time to pull it. I was just saying 44 or a 60 is $60 bucks, b/c it doesn't matter what front axle it is...that is just the standard price for a front axle, so it just all depends if a truck comes in with a front 44 or 60.
harkinoff 06-26-2002, 06:34 PM a front 44 or a 60 for 60 bucks,

To make my spare parts pile bigger. I figure I have the land now, may as well use it. :D
Do you have any broken cases that are basically complete in the rear output and intermediate shaft area? Those would be good candidates for turning into crawler boxes.

snoop dogg 06-26-2002, 09:12 PM i can get you a front 44 easily, a rear 60 easily, but not a front 60...if you REALLY need anything, just pay me the cost and like $15 bucks for the time to pull.
tsm1mt 07-01-2002, 09:46 AM Ben,
Is this what you're after?

Or maybe this - though the t'case has the short shifters, and it could be a 'Binder unit.. I've never bothered to measure input shaft lengths n' such before..

Ben W 07-01-2002, 10:14 AM Yep  Either one of those would probably work for me. I think the one w/ the aluminum bellhousing is a late 70's T18, and the other one could be a T18 or T98, I can't tell from the pictures.
How much are they?

The second one is a T18. You can make out the designation on the side of the 'case if you look carefully. I took another picture of that area specifically - a close up, which also reveals very clearly the T18 number.
I didn't get a price yet. I was busy looking at front clips and when I went to go back to work (2hrs later.. yikes) the guy I deal with was not around..
RustoleumWhite 07-01-2002, 11:09 AM what do you need off the jeep t-18's Ben???
Or are you after the extended shifters or....
enquiring minds what to know :D
e-mail me if you don't want to post it...
Don't make me call you!!!! :p

The whole thing! Next project is going to run a Ford 5.0/T18/D20. I'm in the parts gathering stage. :D

Cool, when you get a chance to find out the price let me know. If the price is right, and you have room I might just take them both. Also let me know how much $$ you want for your trouble/finders fee. Thanks! :)
madmarx 07-01-2002, 11:37 AM And just where is this yard??? I live in Chattanooga, but I would drive a couple hours for some of these prices...
snoop dogg 07-04-2002, 08:00 AM www.pullapart.com...the one in conley. They list some prices on the site, but they don't show all the prices and usually they are cheaper than what is on there, that page is out of date....a cj came in about a week ago...hasn't been picked yet?? It had one of those hard tops that the doors *look* like they slide?? It looked in really good condition (the body)
