: any interest in a hardcore wheelin club in CO?
offroadr35 06-25-2002, 01:42 PM After posting the thread about competing i started wishing there was a good club i could belong to in CO, alla PORs, Tin Benders, etc. How much interest would there be in something like this? What exactly would it take to start such a club? Would anyone be interested in undertaking this project with me? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve
offroadr35 06-25-2002, 01:45 PM i'd post this on the colorado4x4 site but i don't want to get anyone's hopes up yet, it's just a thought.

I think a lot of information is making a good decision is missing. I am moving to Colorado Springs this Monday from Durango Colorado. Obviously Durango does not have a four wheel drive club worth mentioning (I am not a chrome bumper fan if you know what I mean). I would be interested if the meeting place was relatively close by to the springs. If it was, I would be happy to contribute my web page skills and digital know how. Tell us a little more about what you are thinking about. I would like to see it for POR members exclusively. Seems that would weed out the stupid people.

offroadr35 06-25-2002, 02:01 PM Pirates Of Colorado:skull: :skull: haha. Honestly i have no plans or ideas on the subject, i've never even been a member of a club other than our CU wheeling club which is not really organized at all. I don't know where the meeting place would be, it seems like denver would be the ideal place. I would be willing to drive there for meetings. i'd love to chat with you sometime about it. how many members do you think it takes to have a good club? What does a good club need? I really don't know anything, i just know i would like to belong to a good club and am willing to put in some work to make that happen.

I think a *good* club is a small group with common interests in the type of wheeling they are interested in. I think that 20 people sounds like a ball park good number for a club that is small. Any larger and it gets more and more complicated.
Obvious things needed that I can think of:
Meeting place
Meeting city
Meeting times (once a month sounds good to me)
Club name
Maybe a nice piece of large private land near denver to build a huge boulder obstacel trail:D
Other than those things listed the small things are pretty pointless and not very important in the big picture of things. The main thing is to establish what types of trails you are looking at doing. If you are interested in doing easy to moderate trails which by the title of your post does not sound like it, then I would expect a lot of interest. The truly harder core people are small in numbers compared to the easy trail runners. I am anxious to attempt the independance trail area in Colorado Springs. I hear it is hard core, but I am not sure having not been there with my vehicle yet.
It is open to Rovers right? :)

onsafari 06-25-2002, 02:11 PM I would be all for it. This responce is more toward the other thread you started, so I thought I would just reply to this one. I don't think there would be a problem with setting up a "Hardcore club" with the amount of wheelers in this state.
The only problem i see is where do you hold the events? I mean there are maybe a handfull really hardcore trails in this state. For a competition it would more than likely have to held on private land, so we would have to find a person that is willing to anti up his property for a comp. Do you know anybody willing to do that? The only person I know would be the person who owns the land where the Kremling Crawl was held last weekend.
Maybe we could get a couple of the local 4x4 shops like Avalanche, High Country, Predator and so on to help out with this. I'm pretty sure there getting enough of my money as well as many other peoples money to throw a few bucks back into some local events.
Just my .02
Pdaddy 06-25-2002, 02:12 PM Damn its like the hells angels of rockcrawlin, POR chapters and shit, jeez

I sure would like to see one go through it. I keep trying get my buddy with his built 90RR to run it with me.
I was referring to the club. But I would also like to see some rovers go through it. Although the expensive stock parts and weak axles intimidate most. I swapped that crap out (with dana), so I am anxious to attempt. Have any pics of that rover you are referring to?
offroadr35 06-25-2002, 02:22 PM WAY's rover is built more than most. Indy is fun. yes i am intending it to be geared towards the more hardcore trails or better yet, towards the more hardcore people. Once we have a good group of people, we can decide on the trails later. I am pretty sure i could get some space at my school as a meeting place, would that be too far for people? As far as 4x4 shops, i have never dealt with anyone other than Scott @ Rockstomper and probably never will because he is a stand up guy. I'm sure he and aaron would at least support the club, if not come out with us. It seems like we could easily get 20 people just off this website alone. As for the name, i'll leave that one to someone else...i've never been overly creative with names (offroadr35  ).

I sent you the only pic. of have of it at work. It looks a little different now.
offroadr35 06-25-2002, 02:24 PM oh yeah and WAY, of course Rovers are allowed. They're what got me into this crazy hobby in the first place.

Big Rich 06-25-2002, 02:35 PM If and when you guys get something going please let me know. I looking for property in Co. as we speak and could use a laison in Co.. If you'd be interested.
I'll be more specific in the pm.

nobody20 06-25-2002, 03:51 PM Why start a club? Just find like minded people with similar experience and vehicles of similar capability and go on runs. Clubs take a lot of time and there is always politics and misc BS. The best clubs are ones that don’t meet, don’t collect dues and don’t waste time on trivial club like issues.
Check out these outfits in Colorado, they might satisfy your appetite for hardcore if you really qualify for hardcore.

Western Slope 4-Wheelers
Slagburn 06-25-2002, 04:49 PM I know of a couple wheelers on the north end of the state with hardcore land and nasty obstacles aplenty... supposedly, should be checking it out within the next couple weeks.
A formal club's kind of a PITA isn't it? I don't know all the rules, but even a publicly announced trail run is a no-no according to the BLM, at least without a permit.
I'm definitely looking for more rough-n-ready rigs to run with and know of at least a few people that would also be down, organization or not..

Jettech 06-25-2002, 04:54 PM Clubs,I don't know, seems like the hardcore guys don't dig them much.
Probly cause most of them around here are a bunch of sissy clubs:D
I know, we could have a monthly meeting at Shotgun Willys :D
Hey Big Rich you probly heard of Kremmling CO ,UROC has one there next month.

Yes, I have heard of Kremmling Krawl, but they are running their own events on their own land, if I remember correctly. We are looking for (and found some) more private lands for additional events run with the multiple classes that we run in CalROCS. Nothing against UROC, we just do things differently.
Rich
Cheepin 06-25-2002, 05:53 PM Colorado State association just had an event in Kremmling.I went Sunday. It was a joke.I hope UROC has a better one then they did. They had no points for stopping or backing up.Only for hitting a flag and timing out.The really stupid part was they kept moving the flags around.Blazin:rasta:
Slagburn 06-25-2002, 06:28 PM blazin, you know why they had no points for stop or reverse? And kept moving flags? Because it doesn't matter! That's right, they never even bothered to add the points up and give any sort of results at the end of it.
I know, we could have a monthly meeting at Shotgun Willys
LOL, I was thinking more like TNTs in the springs. :D
Just because most clubs are :rainbow: with a ton of rules and stupid shiat, I think that meeting with four wheelers that have similar interests is a great way to meet friends. Who says that they have to be at a church or school. I vote a strip club and/or a trail. Hell if it is small mayber even a BBQ
Way
Big Rich 06-25-2002, 07:02 PM I'm always up for a BBQ.......except that I'm not hardcore, my jeep is only runniong 31's and is open.

Like there's no stupid people who access this site? :flipoff2: j/k I know what you meant by that. Do you guys follow the Colorado 4x4 site and the trip planning section? There are plenty of folks who are into hard core who invite anybody who wants to wheel to come along. There's one right now for a trip to Vernal Utah to hit the ARCA course.
72zebra 06-26-2002, 08:22 AM I will be moving to Colorado Springs on the 5th of July. Im in the military so Im pretty poor but I hope to build a Sammy to do some serious but probably not hardcore trail riding. Ive given some thought to taking the entire body off the mud truck, completly cage it, lower it a bunch, add a doubler and wheeling the 52"s! Not much use for a 9ft tall truck in Colorado. I would have to find a new best friend with torch, mig, plasma cutter, and tube bender. Anybody want to be my new best friend and help me chop up my big ass bogger? :D

ShadowZuk 06-26-2002, 08:32 AM I wouldn't mind joining a hardcore CO Club =-)... I dont' mind gettin it on:roxy:

Although my zuk is in renovation. 100" WB, Coils, 6:1's, 37's and major need of tube work  LOL

Sounds like we both need a new best friend!! Is that mud in the picture? Maybe I could use my mudtruck!!! I like the sammy. Can you find them cheap up there or could I find one here in Oklahoma cheaper? I imagine with the offroad scene there it would be more expensive. Or is it cheaper because there is more of them? Did I mention Im poor?
aaronlosey 06-26-2002, 08:49 AM i'd be up for that when i get back in town. we should run all wanna be members through indy blind folded to become members :flipoff2:
someway to keep the posers out like me.
aaronlosey 06-26-2002, 09:00 AM and no meetings!!! just 4wheeling. also, no dues, officers, or anything else.
72zebra 06-26-2002, 10:08 AM No we need a president, that will be me. And we need dues, and the dues will go toward building the poser presidents new rig. I like this new club already!! I need to set up a pay pal account so the new members can send me money easier!!;)
CannonBall 06-26-2002, 11:16 AM Well if you go to CU, then there's the CU 4 wheel club. Overall it's not that hardcore but there's a few of us who get together and cause general mayhem off road. Last year was teh first year of the club so we pretty much ran the closest trail a lot, carnage, which can be made to be pretty tough espicially in the snow.
In any case we're looking to run like independence at least try it next year. If there was a formal club that would be sweet. Good ideas here.
-Nate
ShadowZuk 06-26-2002, 01:07 PM Did I mention I am poor as well? LOL... Chix don't dig it when you nickel and dime to wheel, well if your lucky you will find the right one :rasta:
Sometimes you can find Sammies here for pretty cheap. Often they run 1500 to 2500 but have known a couple people to pick them up for 200-1000. I know alot of tricks to building them.
The picture was taken in Moab 1 year ago at the EJS on Steel Bender. That is a big blind hole of water  A Toy dropped in before us and lifted his rear tire about 4 feet up so my little bro couldn't resist.
I ran Indy when it first opened. I helped the Maitenance team work on it to open it. It was alot of fun the first day of opening listening to people to try and discourage the Teen in the little zuk
I've ran it about 6 times with my old setup that is now on my dads zuk. 33" BFGS, 4.16's, 5.12's, custom SPOA etc. Never got to run my new setup since I went to PHX last summer and didn't come home with half of my truck so it's time to go a little more trick.

What happened to the CU big wheels, I thought they were into some hard trails?
redrangie 06-26-2002, 02:54 PM Way,
I'm Stoked that you're moving to the springs. I knew you were moving, but I didn't know where...
I agree about the club thing, no meetings, just showing up to wheel.
I'd be up for it....the faster I brake my B/W, the better. The problem this year is going to be finding somewhere to go that's not ridiculously crowded 'cause of the closures. I've not been able to get out much due to the house, but I've heard of some insane wait times on stuff...

Double posting is one way to change your newbie status LOL :) :flipoff2:
Joking aside, I look forward to wheeling with rovers. Can you believe that I have only been wheeling with another rover on one occasion? Nobody beets the crap out of them where I live??? Hope the house selling goes good. I can't imagine that the powerhouse trail or Independance will be too crowded. Dying to do both of those. Keep in touch. I will PM you with my new number when I get there.
I will have a spare Borg Warner later this year. Just got an LT230 in Denver. I will proabably put the 4.3 gears in prior to installing it.

offroadr35 06-26-2002, 03:53 PM the CU wheeling club is a joke. Only a few rigs are even locked f/r. The real thing that gets me about the club though is that they rarely go out, and when they do only 3-4 people show up. Matt and Jeff had the right idea, it was just poorly executed.
As far as not having meetings, i'd love to have one every once in a while just to promote club unity, vote in new members, etc. Also that way everyone in the club helps out in planning our trips. I am very serious about starting something so please PM me any ideas. Unfortunatly i'm 2000 miles away from colorado right now but when i get back in august it'll be time to GET IT!
